So I was thinking about putting new cams in my srt and was looking for some feedback on if it is worth it. Would I gain enough to make it worth while. I have a custom dsp tune at 19psi with stg2 inj. 3in turbo back 3in cia 3bar map and tip larger tb. I would like to try and build a little more power without going bigger turbo just yet. I'm getting a better intercooler and hard pipes this summer. If i did get cams do i need new cam gears as well? any imput would be helpful

Yes, you will gain some on top from bigger cams, although I don't think it's worth it. Do a naughtier turbo first.

Yea, but the better value is definitely in the new turbo.

The real benefit of cams comes once you have had some head work done, along with port matching, larger T/B, ect.

thank you for the input. I think i started looking at the s251 turbo kit form agp. that or the delta 42 depends on money and what i want to do lol

for something cheap for cams ive heard 2.0 cams help quite a bit on srt's and they can be had for ussually 80 and under on sale boards or a junkyard 2.0 cams (1gn 2.0 dohc motor) then use the rest for nastier turbo =D

dont bother with an AGP kit..... Have erick build you a kit w/ a borg warner turbo... I myself have one of their new EFR series turbos ordered

bigger turbo will hands down give you much more power potential than cams.....and since you already have a 3-bar map and tip, you're good to go

Don't think about the total cost of a mod, try to think about it as a ratio of dollars per hp. A turbo kit will net you a lot more hp per dollar. Once you have a bigger turbo, your hp per dollar gets better and better for big cams, which makes it a very intelligent investment.

Follow me:

Assume you can gain 100 hp with a bigger turbo over stock (this is very rough estimate) wait for a group buy or build one yourself including enough fuel for 330-350 hp and you will have what, 1800, maybe 2 grand invested? so you are talking 18-20 bucks per hp.

Now without going big turbo, say you go with a crane 14/16, total investment with springs/retainers etc is 800+ (new parts) and you might gain 15 hp(?) at your power level? maybe 20 (??) so your dollar per hp is in the 40-60 dollar range depending on what you can pull out of it.

Now if you go big turbo, then add cams down the road and you pick up 40-50 hp, you drop your dollar per hp down to 16-20 range depending on how much you gain for your application. See what I'm sayin?
