Weisco Pistons

Looking to start my bottom end build soon. JE only offers a 9.2:1 ratio for the SOHC and I plan on boosting so that's not low enough for my taste. Weisco offers an 8.8:1, but I can't find any solid reviews on them in a Neon. Any words of wisdom?

Weisco is good stuff.

I agree, NTM wiseco's come with an antifriction coating on the skirts unlike JE

you dont HAVE to get 9.2:1 sohc pistons from JE... I got 9.0's for my build...its just a special order and takes a few weeks to get them, thats all...
I got mine through Modern

Could always run the 9.2. More compression is always good, if you have the fuel to handle it.

even if ur boosting? i would think trying to get down to 8.8 would be better?

If the fuel, gaskets and head bolts/studs can support it, the more compression the better.
In most cases fuel is the limiting factor so most people go with a low c/r.

yeah what frank said...
in my build i have 9.0:1 pistons, but i'm also milling the head .030" to bump be up closer to 9.5:1. I'll be running upwards of 25-30psi boost, but using E85 instead of premium gas, so I'll be safe.

ah. never knew that!

See, I'm not just a pretty face. I've got some info every now and again
The more compression you can run the less lag you will have out of boost.

nice, prolly wont go down to much if thats the case.

I should also mention that you have a smaller tuning window as you bump compression to go with extra boost.

lower comp = smaller tune window? wouldnt it be a bigger one because their is more air and more space to work with between the piston and tdc?

That's what I meant, as compression ratio increases you will have a smaller tuning window.

Yep. Compression = Power.

Interesting. So now the question is What compression I should run. Its a DD and I want to still use 93oct pump gas. I plan on running a moderate amount of boost to start (12-14 psi) then bumping up to the 20+ range later when I can upgrade. Opinions?

Since you want to stay on normal pump gas, go with lower compression.

Would I be safe a 9.0:1? or should I drop down to 8.8

Very very very little difference between those two. Shoot, run the car a little rich and get some carbon buildup on the 8.8's and you'll have 9's. lol
I'd get the 9's if it was me. Also, the yellow car has wiseco's in it, they are awesome. Offset wrist pin's rock when it comes to NVH.
