In dier need of exhaust help :(

Hey y'all,
So I recently purchased a catback SRT exhaust (stock, not Magnaflow or any of those brands) and had it installed on my 2.0 SXT. With the lack of turbo, it is
extremely loud and annoying to myself and I'm sure
many others. I have coming in, the Mopar Lip Kit, which is the only reason why I wanted to get the dual tip SRT exhaust - not knowing at the time how loud this sucker was going to be.
I really want to find an internal (inside the tip) silencer that is easy to install/remove (unlike a glasspack or yet
another resonator) but it seems that they are impossible to find for 3" exhausts?! Is this true or am I just having bad luck finding them?
For the measurements I took, it appears that the tips have a 3.5" OD and a 3" ID - for what I read the catback piping is still 2.25" like my stock SXT piping was, correct? I already noticed that the tips
do have a pre-drilled silencer hole in them...so why is there no friggin' silencers for the SRT-4 exhaust?
Does anyone know what size/kind of silencer I need to be looking for? If it says that the silencer is 3" in diameter - are they meaning its OD or ID? or that it's for a 3" tip like I have? For instance, DC Sports is the only company so far that I actually found that makes a 2.5" and 3" silencer for their exhaust systems...I'm wondering if it would work on mine? I e-mailed them but it is Sunday so I doubt I'll hear back for a day or two...I need my fellow forum members' help please.
Here is what I'm referring to (DC Sports 3" Silencer) P/N SIL3000 they also have a 2.5" one P/N SIL2500...:

That wont work for anything you want to do. Bill plugged one of the outlets (I'm not sure where though) to reduce the noise on his Borla? exhaust. Other than that as a possibility, you've either got to deal with the loudness or find something like a 31" glasspack to get welded in.

Not news I want to hear

lol Is the R/T dual exhaust just as loud or does it contain a muffler?

the R/T rear section will bolt right on, and is much, much quieter than the SRT setup. It's got a muffler similar to stock Neons, and is just slightly more audible than a factory 2.0 system. Only difference is the tips aren't as wide as the SRT tips. Have you made cutouts in your rear lip yet? If not, maybe find a rear section from an R/T or grab an eBay rep one, then mount it up, and make cutouts for that (which may already be perf'd on the inside of the lip).

I have cut out my factory rear bumper for the SRT tips but the lip kit hasn't arrived yet. I'm pretty sure the lip cut already has perfs for the R/T exhaust (as the SRT is a little wider). I think I would definitely be more happy with the R/T one then... :-\ I can't stand loud fart canon type "mufflers" lol I want a quiet ride, just with a (stock) functional dual tip for the lip kit *sighs*

I may be one of the only ones that doesn't really mind the loudness of the SRT exhaust on a non SRT. The only thing I hate is the burble on decel. I have just learned to avoid the annoyance by pressing in the clutch when just driving around.
Keep in mind the R/T muffler is crazy expensive new ($300 IIRC) which is why I went with the SRT.
SRT is also fun in tunnels and toll booths.
FWIW, the R/T stock piping is larger than SE/SXT and even the SRT, atleast where the rear section bolts up. I had to slit, spread and weld my SRT rear section to fit it on my R/T midpipe. SE/SXT and SRT all neck down in size at that point.

I wish you kept your R/T end section!

What is the mid-pipe on your R/T...2.5" ? I'm sure I could find a 2.5" to 2.25" conversion pipe at my local auto store that would fix that problem...

Previous owner of my car cheaped out on a replacement and put a stock SE/SXT muffler on it (single pipe turned down on the passenger side) Was a NAPA unit so it was obviously MUCH cheaper than the R/T section. It looked terrible and I could not live with it. I didn't want to pay the coin for the R/T section so I went with the SRT for 1/4 the price.
I forget what the piping size was, but it was exatly the same size as the connecting side of the SRT rear section, so it would not slip into/over the R/T midpipe. It was bumping uglies until I spread out the SRT rear section and welded it up, then put it on and clamped it up.

ah, well the stock SRT pipe is 2.25" OD I believe...so your R/T ID must have been 2.25" w/ probably a 2.5" OD if they were the same size
How much do you think a local exhaust/muffler shop would charge to weld on a muffler to the pipe? I might just do that...

R/T mid pipe is 2.25" all the way to the end. All others (2002-up*) are 2.25" necked down to 2.00" at the end. That is why the SRT rear would not fit the R/T midpipe.
* Consistently. Some '01 and most '00 are 2.00" from the cat back.

Honestly I would just buy a resonator, maybe two so that it cuts out popping and rattling etc etc.. aka 'rice' plus it would quite it a bit. At the end of the day its the same story, you get what you pay for, if you go cheap you get bad results (and there is a difference between good and overpriced but that is a different story). I was beyond happy with the kit magnaflow offers, I feel it beats getting a stock srt-4 system by miles. But if you don't want that you can easily buy a good resanator from borla, magnaflow etc that should run you less than 100 and cut out a lot of noise and make it sound better. I don't know what you got the piping for but I assume around 100 so for another 100 and 50ish for the install youre looking at 250 which is 1/2 of what a magnaflow or borla would cost you so its a better route if you just cannot afford a name brand. Anyway to sum this rambling up don't try and band-aid fix this, I probably have 800 into my exhaust system and I'm glad I do.

I love the popping and gurgling on decel with an SRT catback. That's about the only thing I missed from it.
