IIRC, if you leave your key in the on position but don't start the car, it'll ding. That doesn't mean there's a code.

Upon startup... my oil light used to stay on rather longish.

I'd wait with anxious anticipation for it to go out... which it used to every time.

I figured it was getting slow in it's old age... like me. :D

It lights up all the warning lights a check, so you know they work.

Yeah I know that, but I've never experienced a dinging engine light in any
other vehicle before. I was just a little concerned

It's part of the emissions test, as far as that MIL turning on prior to starting the car. Cars in NC will fail inspection if the MIL doesn't function.

:withstupid:

Any state with IM240 or newer emissions will fail it.

As a side note, if the airbag lamp doesn't light up and go off, you will fail many state's inspections (if the inspector is sharp that is).
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

It's normal for the CEL to come on in with the key on on a lot of OBD2 cars. Interestingly enough, mine doesn't do it, nor does it chime. For some reason I thought it came on, but I went and checked it and sure enough it doesn't. I get the oil light, "brake" light (per the ebrake being set), and seatbelt light. I don't have a bulb in the airbag light so that explains that hehe.

Your '05 Neon doesn't have a MIL that comes on when you click it to "ACC" or whatever? It's probably broke... or no bulb, or something. The MIL is supposed to come on prior to starting. I don't care if it's the dude that built the car in the factory, if I get a vehicle that requires emissions and that "Engine Check Light" doesn't illuminate, it fails.

And Dante - the only light in the cluster that is required to function, per NC DMV Laws, are the High Beam Indicator and Engine Check Light. We don't even consider seat belts for inspections... it's just not required by DMV here to pass an inspection.

Wow, that's pretty lax. VA used to be like that...horn, lights, wipers, done. But over the years they have become a lot more picky.

Just the "Run" position. I don't think any cluster functions work when it is turned back to the ACC position.

You need to start shitting your pants when you DON'T see it. That means your car is 10 seconds away from exploding mission impossible style......
