RETURN OF MPX 2GN 60MM TB!

Post by haseebgill12 » Thu Jun 02, 2011 7:30 am

Oryt guys i don't know if this is in the right section but here goes.
I have been speaking to MP over the past few days regarding the 2gn throttle body....and great news, they are considering restarting production if enough interest is shown!!
here is what they had to say:
We’ll continue to consider building another run of TB’s.
Maybe they’d work out well if we could somehow reduce the price, but yet get good demand from the 2gn community.
We originally released these around 2001~.
Thanks for supporting us and trying to get these back, if you could help spread the word maybe on our facebook page and or on 2gn we’ll continue to see if we can make it work out!
Basically i want to see how many guys would be interested in the TB, i know alot of guys are doing turbo builds since the asp manifolds made a return, so if you dont already have a TB then this could be a great opportunity.

So i'd love to see how many guys are interested and i will report back to MP to let them know.

Please get back to me ASAP guys, lets make this a reality!

If they could keep the price point at $200, I bet they could make a run of 25-30 and sell them all pretty easy.

If it's applicable to the 2005 model, then yea... I'll take one.

I never understood why the 2005 model was neglected when it came to that MPx TB.

because for some reason it' hit or miss if the 05 PCM will reject the TB. sometimes it's nice and accepts it while other times it gets more pissy than a menstrual teenager. i'm not sure why, but i've only heard of this with 05's not 03's or 04's

For me to think it's a good bolt-on, they would just have to adjust the shape of the throttle cam to more closely resemble the stock air flows. So it would need to be less rotation than stock at the first 30% or more and then really crank open the rest of the way above 80%. I'm pretty sure that's why people have had trouble with them. And if they didn't cause the CELs, they would open up a whole new market.

Agreed.

That would partially "eliminate" the bog/sudden drop in MAP from too much throttle for the load/engine speed. The biggest factor with a larger TB is relearning that less is more.

It still won't help those that thing going WOT from a dead stop is going to launch them instantly.

I still can't outperform the Speed Control for low RPM acceleration with the 60mm. The PCM is still better than me for that. But then it knows exactly where to keep the MAP for optimum power. Like I said before, a larger TB would do better with e throttle. Having multiple updates per second on MAP/IAT amongst other things is a huge advantage. Your brain to foot cannot make adjustment nearly as quickly. :)
I still think a 60mm will make more power above 5000 ~ rpm than a 55/56mm tho. The 60mm just doesn't have that same pull near redline that the 65mm did. But for more driveability, the happy medium between 52 and 60 will rule.

Of course this is from a N/A perspective.

Yeah I purchased mine from a fellow forum user and ever since then its been a great buy at around 200 bucks. I have not had one single problem with mine. I have a 2004 so dodge must have updated the pcm with something. The only odd thing about mine is that because it gets alot more airflow at low rpm range it shifts earlier than it use to when really is not a problem it was just interesting after driving the same car for 6 years you know every little thing so if something changes it freaks you out for a bit. Also I just wanted to get one for later mods since the power gain has been minimal but it is a great buy new if they run another set just a bit lower price.

If it is shifting earlier, it is not going to make as much power. The larger TB really shines at higher RPM's. With the 40/41te, if you want to see the true gains in acceleration, do the FSM recommended maximum accel test: Hold it in the 1-2 position, and accelerate until it hits O.D. It will shift at the highest shift points. :D

Give it a little more time...

Maybe bump it up once a couple of weeks, to catch folks that don't log in everyday.

I don't want ONE throttle body. I want FOUR!

MPX should really release an ITB setup. :)

One thing to remember though guys, there's three things we all want... Performance, quality parts, and to get it cheap. The problem is that in order to get the first two, you can't always have cheap. Us neon nuts are known for skimping on quality. We should really try to change that. I know I have my moments (ie. Using a rattle can for a coolant overflow) but in all reality if you're gonna buy something quality, you're gonna have to pay for it

yeah i completely agree, after seeing all the <$200, you really have to consider the quality of the MPX products, they are made to a pretty high standard.

I agree with what you guys are saying. BUT. I also know there is a LOT of margin in stuff like this. Modern could sell them for $200 and make money easy. And I'd pay $200 for one. But I don't think I'd pay $250 or $275.
