gettin hot out... started using my A/C...

when I switch it on, especially when it's really hot outside...I get a sound as soon as it kicks in in... probably as soon as the compressor comes on...
sounds like a pop or, to describe the sound.... "dunk"
comes from the passenger side, like from the engine compartment or passenger side firewall area, or even under the dash (?)

A/C seems to work fine... only happens once, when I first turn it on

any ideas?

i get that as well i just write it off as a neon sound, but only the experts here know so i will watch this to see if they answer.

I would guess that it is the mode door closing. It will make a dull thump sound when it does.

If the sound is coming from under the hood, it is a common problem with our cars. Check with your dealer about an ECM reflash concerning this. There is a TSB for it and there should be no cost. Had it done to my car, however, it did not completely resolve the issue. According to the dealer, as our compressors wear the oil tends to pool in it, thus causing the harsh engagement. Do a web search of Neon TSB's to find the number of it. Wouldn't hurt to check the recalls to be sure all of those have been done to your car before you get to the dealer. Jot down the recalls and ask the dealer to run your VIN, if they haven't been done it will show up.
