WhiteNeon, Ryan & bigtommy - Y'all get a big You Told Me So! I was wrong.

Went to my Indy yesterday - my right rear bearing is shot. I am amazed that a wheel bearing can be that "over bearing" for better lack of words LOL I mean, it literally was so loud I had to crank the radio to drown it out. Every bad wheel bearing I've heard in the past was never that loud.

I'm heading over there in an hour for him to slap a new one in. Now, he didn't test drive my car yesterday b/c once he found that he is 90% sure that is my problem - so I just am hoping that is all that she needs :) But I must say...$48 wheel bearing < < $1k transmission so right or wrong, I'm extremely happy  ...alllllthough, having a new tranny w/ only 5k miles on it woulda been nice... haha

Problem fixed. Removed the rear wheel bearing/assembly and it was SHOT. Installed a new one from Auto Zone - $48 - got her aligned - and she is quiet!!! I told Ryan, after 2 weeks of constant pulling & roaring I don't know what to do with myself now haha

Thanks to everyone for their help & time! I truly appreciate it & hope it can help someone else in the future

Well, I'm on my way home last night and my E-Brake light comes on as well as my brakes became spongy. So this morning I investigate...my MC is almost completely empty and there is brake fluid leaking around the right rear wheel - the same wheel my mechanic just changed the wheel bearing on. Is this a normal thing to leak brake fluid after changing a bearing...? I ask because I read another post of someone who changed their front wheel bearing and had fluid loss / light come on. I added DOT 3 fluid just now to the full line and have an appointment w/ my indy in about a 1/2 hour. We'll see what he says - but I just want to know from all of you (who I know won't BS me like a mechanic might) if this is normal or not?

Not normal. Possibly the wheel cylinder went bad, or he screwed it up somehow.

Edit: viewtopic.php?t=53963

As you can see, there is no need to mess with the brakes. (Other than adjusting them to remove the drum) If the pedal was pushed with the drum off, then it would blow the seals out of the cylinder. But proving it would be difficult.

Thanks Bill for the super quick response! It was indeed the right rear wheel cylinder - it's shot & just leaking fluid. I barely made it to my indy's before my e-brake light came back on & almost had no brakes, once again! That is one scary feeling!! Haha I'm at my indy's now awaiting a new cylinder to be delivered and then we'll bleed the brakes & I should be good to go.
