Oil coolers

Post by DetergentCandy » Mon Sep 05, 2011 3:48 pm

How many aftermarket oil coolers are there? And who is running them?
I've noticed that changing the oil on my SRT is going to be a pain in the ass.
(not my picture)

Look how close that filter is to the charge pipe. Who effing designed this car? Not only can I NOT get a filter wrench around my filter, but I can barely fit my hands around it to turn. And I am NOT removing the charge pipe every time I want to change my oil.

The 2-3 times i've had to remove the filter are making me wonder if there's an easier way.
If I were to get rid of the stock oil cooler, i'd have waaay more room.

What does everyone else do? Do you ditch the cooler for an aftermarket one that mounts elsewhere? Or does everyone just have tiny midget hands?

Most filters don't have that little nut on the end like the K&N, so you can slip a filter wrench between the charge pipe and filter no problem. It can be a little annoying, but it works. I don't know of any aftermarket coolers for the SRT.

Ya, I know most don't have that annoying nut. But even with a regular filter, I couldn't for the life of me get a filter wrench around it. Maybe I need to get a narrower one. I just used whatever my father had.

Actually that's prolly why they used the k&n so they can get a standard wrench on that nut.

Mmm yes. Quite.
That's a good idea. I wish Wix had that little nut on the end. :/

The 2.0, SRT-4 and PT 2.4's are not bad motor designs at all. Be glad it's not a Ford Taurus or Chevy Cavalier. You'd be doing a lot more bitching.

I like using something like this more than the band wrench anyway.

That's what I use. Picked up one from Wal-Mart for like $5 years ago. Even Made in the USA. I think they carry Fram-branded ones now.

So then...another question.
How do you run an oil pressure gauge? Don't most gauges require a sensor to be attached between the filter and the engine somewhere?

They are usually T'd in with the factory sensor. I don't trust those sandwich adapters.

I use the small filter wrench from autozone it fits fine. Pull drain plug then filter then put new filter in then drain plug it makes it easier
