Bottom end rebuild without pulling engine?

Don't know if this has been posted before, tried the search and couldn't find a thread. I was wondering if it would be possible to change out the pistons and rods without pulling the engine?

Yup. You'll still have to remove the head and oil pan though. If you read through my project log, I did it in an apartment parking lot after my car hydrolocked. I think there are some pictures in there to give you an idea of what is involved.

Thanks chad and hudson, very nice builds. OD, thanks for the drama, it gave it a nice touch. I'd have to do the swap in a weekend which is why I don't want to pull the engine. Plus I don't have a hoist.

that's exactly why i didn't pull mine the first time. i'm not sure how well trained you are with vehicles, but i'm an ase certified mechanic and it took me 22 hours of work time to do it my first time

Biggest pain seems to be the head. I know my exhaust manifold bolts are rusted which is going to be oh so fun. I thought about unbolting the cat but those bolts are rusted as well. I'm pretty good with cars, I've been working on my own the past 5 years or so

alright, just expect to take an entire weekend if you've never done it before. and your best bet is to unbolt from the head itself as the aluminum and steel can only oxidize and not rust together
