There are so many things that come to mind!

Vacuum Leak
Bad Sensor
Clogged Something?
Faulty Something, most likely, get under the hood, and get looking

I don't know how well I would trust that the guys at autozone here are about the least automotive inclined people I have ever met. I have a 2.0 highout put injector cover in my 05, and since the rt wasn't offered in 05 he thought I had a srt and when I told him no its just the base 2.0 he said then that wouldn't be on there. He wouldn't sell the a cam position sensor unless I got it for the srt because he knew he was right to the point he told me he didn't want to deal with having to deal with a return when I came back.

As far as the torque converter I wouldn't jump right into that off the bat. I would try the easyer and cheaper possibility first. Vacuum leaks, sensors, coil and wires. I personally have never heard of the torque converter causing what you described.

If the TC is not unlocking totally, it would cause the engine to shake and stall.

It will only throw a code if the solenoid fails, as in the circuit is open.

It has no real way to know it it is sticking, or actually engaging. That would require anther sensor to measure the TC rpm vs the TC output.

While there is technically the tach signal vs the input sensor speed, I don't believe they thought of it, or thought it important enough.
