Idle Undershoot. I need some clarity.

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Was browsing a PT forum and saw this thread. Looks like our cousin has the same issue.
I have a 2007 PCH Edition. non turbo. The last couple days i have noticed that while i'm stopped my idle is very low. Probably between 8-500 rpm. When the rpm's get around 500 it feels as if its going to die out but then suddenly the rpm's jump around 900 then stabilizes around 800 then slowly back down again. Im noticing a pattern in the idle sequence. This cant be good on the motor.Anyone Have a Idea? Thanks

I finally alleviated this problem. Just wanted to check back with my fix.

I had replaced both engine and trans mounts with new Mopar units and that didn't help. I wanted to try one more thing before tinkering with the intake, so I installed some brand new Mopar torque struts. I had recently installed a set of DEA torque struts.

The Mopar torque struts fixed it. They brought the general vibration level way down, and when it idles down at a stop, you don't notice it. I still think the Mopar ones cost too much, but they really work well.

My car is a daily driver, so as far as super go fast cars, I understand if this isn't an option. Thanks again!

Thanks for the update

The factory mounts are indeed expensive, but as you have found, Chrysler spent a lot of money (in theory) to smooth the vibrations out on these cars. Pricey mounts are the...err...price you pay.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

I bought a used 2002 SXT 2.0L with 110,00 miles back in 8/2011 and it had this problem. Saw all the posts here and at neons.org. took it to the local dealership for the TSB, they flashed both the PCM and TCM and the problem went away and haven't had any issues since. Cost me $75.

Sometimes the issue will creep back. My issue went away for two weeks after my car had a trans service done for the solenoid pack. I know the trans has nothing to do with the idle but I'm sure the PCM was reflashed in some fashion. Hope it fixes your issue but don't be surprised if the computer gets smart again and lowers the RPMs.

Well, it's been 3 years and 70,000 more miles so I think I'm safe.
