Motor/Trans mount sizes?

I was talking to a buddy of mine (VW owner). And he told me about using hockey pucks for solid motor mounts. It sounds a little ghetto but he has been using this trick for 4 years with no issues at all. Seeing as how there are no solid options for our main motor mount or trans mount, this may be a good idea. Does anyone have a spare motor or trans mount laying around? I need the internal measurements of them (diameter of where the rubber is) so I can determine if this will work or not.

I actually have both somewhere. MTX mounts.

The passenger side is about 3" diameter and 2.5" thick. Not sure exactly how a hockey puck would work, but that is an interesting idea. Reminds me of a guy I know that was using skateboard wheel bearings for shifter bushings.

You could always fill the mounts with a really hard urethane, they have some pretty stiff mixes available.

A hockey puck is 3" in diameter :) I may make a "how to" on it if it works well :)

Can anyone vouch if the trans mount is the same size??

I think it's the same size, but I don't have one to measure.

I'm curious how bad the vibrations would be with the passenger side mount, might be pretty harsh.

Personally, I don't mind. Its my gofast project. Vibration is expected ;)[url]

Are you talking the 4th mount the attaches to the passenger side frame rail? If so I have a solid mount there. As far as the trans I haven't seen anything aftermarket for it.

Yes, thats the one I'm referring to. Where did you find a solid option for that one? Or did you make it?

If you want measurements off the one I made let me know as I currently have the engine out. Also if you want a stock mount to modify I have mine somewhere just cover shipping.

I've pondered just using a solid piece of wood... Lol
Prolly deteriorate after seeing a little water if not painted or sealed..
After all the thought, I realized the $100-$200 for the solid set wasn't sounding so bad lol

Yeah, I could imagine wood splintering up pretty bad under the stress. I bought boostalots stock mount. Ill keep everyone posted on progress :)

Hockey pucks work EXCELLENT. Call it ghetto if you want, but they definitely work great. When I've made mounts out of hockey pucks, I'll start by gluing two of them together with a good weatherproof flexible epoxy. Then just work with it as one solid block.

The Daytona has square cutouts for the rubber inserts on all the engine mounts. Once I glued two of them together and drilled the hole for the metal sleeve, I just shaped the edges on a belt sander until it fit really snug. Works great.

I see now, I was wondering how it would work without the metal sleeve. Funny coincidence, I woke up this morning and discovery was doing hockey pucks on "how it's made".
