where does your 2nd gen temapature guage stay when at full t

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

my 02 temp guage stays about 1/4 of it's range, every neon i have had in the past always stayed in the middle, i would like to hear from others about where their temp guage stays when the car is fully warmed up, i allready changed the thermastat with no change

From what I remember, my r/t always ran about half way on the gauge. My srt stayes slightly above or at the halfway line but I think those are supposed to run warmer?

thanks to everyone for the input,i'm going to try to replace the temp sending unit if i can remember where it is,if it still doesn't change i'll assume it's normal, there must be something that's a little off,my milage is under 30 mpg around town, thats less than any other neon i have ever had.

I just changed the thermostat and radiator and it either sits a touch below the half way or just a tad above just depends on driving conditions

but before I changed the parts it was always slightly above the middle

Mine stays firmly fixed in the cluster, where it has always been. :D

About 1/3 ish.

Incidentally, I *think* the temp gauge is a buffered gauge and therefore does not show instantaneous temp.

Also, if I read your original post and your reply I get the impression that you think that your mileage is somehow related to the temperature your guage is showing?

yes i did think that maybe it was related,i was told from a parts store that there are 2 different sensors, one for the guage, and another one for the computer, i have not verified this so i am not sure, my 1st gen neon got a little over 30 around town, so did my 2000, the 2002 that i have now seems not quite that good, i upped the front tires one small increment to 185/65/15 if i remember right which made them a little taller,26 more revolutions per mile, than the stock size of 185/60/15.

If you went to a taller tire there would be FEWER revolutions per mile, the odometer now understates how far you travel. That's most likely why your mpg seems lower.
Ist generation tires were a full inch smaller in diameter (185/65-14 - 887 revs per mile) the 15 inch is only 850 revs per mile

i ment to say the original tires were 26 more revolutions than my new ones, now the real question, is there a way to get my speedo correct again with my new tire size of 185/65/15

no in order to get the speedo to be correct you need to run 195/50/15s. Thats what I caculated to be exact height of the 14s.
