Depening on how quiet the engine is, injectors can sound fairly loud.

I have the same noise and EVERYBODY keeps telling me that it's "normal" and "I shouldn't worry about it" but I do because it's loud and it's noise no other engine makes

lol
I would really love to find a decent solution instead of the same sentence

..... It bugs me too but there has not yet been a solution and IF something were seriously wrong, you would know. My engine has 144,000 miles, ticks like a watch and will still take a beating in the mornings ( driving like a dick to get to work on time)

I'm honestly considering re-doing the entire top half of my motor.
Cams, rockers, lash adjusters <---I was told those were the culprit any damn way.
then again, I've been told a lot of shit smh...

Not true. A great many engines make that same noise. They are the 2.0 SOHC found in 1995-2005 Neons.

The plastic valve cover doesn't help to quiet the lifters much either, too bad you can't dynomat the valve cover. I really only notice the piston slap nowadays, I must be used to it.

QFT.
An aluminum one will help dampen some of the valve train noise.
If it has higher mileage, worn guides will also add to the symphony. Replacing the exhaust guides helped quiet mine down a bit. But that isn't a cheap option... A reman head is the better bet all said and done. If that is even related to what the noise actually is...
You could dynomat the outside of the VC, if looks aren't an issue.

What he means is that your ticking noise sounds just like all the other SOHC 2.0 engines out there. Sad but true.
