Hey guys i need a little help here. I just did a timing belt water pump change on my 2000 se i marked everything but must have turned the cam pulley without realizing it. Any idea on how to put the timing back after this mix up? And my odds on bent valves?

Everything should've already had the markings on them and u just have to line them back up.. what happened when u tried to start it?

Have you cranked it with the starter motor?
If not, and only checked it by hand, how far off is it?
You can loosen the rocker shafts to raise all the valves up out of harms way, and reset the marks if they are way off.
You could also put a straight edge across the valve springs with the rocker shafts 100% backed off to see if there are any that are visibly lower. That would mean the valve head is bent enough to keep it from seating.
If it is only a tooth or two off, you should ba able to TDC the crank, and turn the cam mark to the top. More than that, if you turned it any other way than by hand, you may have done some damage.
Always go at least two crank turns by hand to check valve timing. Spark plugs out for ease of turning. That way if there is dificulty turning, it might be a valve hitting.

Tried to start the engine cranks over but wont start i didnt hear the hammer ping like noise to indicate valves hitting. I think my issue was aligning the marks on the cam and not properly lining the crank.

Whatu could do is just take everything back apart, rest the timing, crack by hand and double check timing is still correct, put back together and pray it runs smooth with no bent valves

Therin lies my problem how do i set the timing back to stock if i threw it out i kno the procedure to line the marks up and put the #1 at tdc but wouldnt the valves be off? Do the lines on the cam indicate valves are closed? Open? Or having the markings line up is good enough?

Loosen the rocket arm shaft bolts, this way all the valves will b closed and out of the way of the pistons, set the marks up and tighten the rocket arm bolts back up. The valves will set themselves

Thank you. If i do have bent valves do i have to have the head sent out or can i drop new valves in? And what are the torque specs for the rocker are bolts if you happen to know? Im sorry for all the questions but im trying to get all the info before i tackle the beast.

You can set the valves urself but theres a process u have to follow for them to seat 100%. Search it on here. There might b a video on youtube as well.
Rocket arm torque specs are 21 ft/lbs
Get a haines manual! Its well worth the money..use it all the time

Rocket Arms?
Rocker shaft bolts: Please do not attempt to do 21 foot pounds, unless you like thread repair, a lot.
Tighten bolts to 28 N·m (250 in. lbs.)
Just be sure they are good and snug.

I'd throw that fucker in the trash.
I have three Factory Service Manuals that all agree to 28 nm 250 in lbs.

You can find them on ebay relatively cheap. I just got one (if it ever arrives) for $10 shipped for the '99.

I have the haynes manual as well but it is vague as hell when it come to intricate details. It produces a lot of head scratching on my part. Bill would you suggest taking the head off and having a valve job and so on done to it even if the valves arent bent? Im honestly thinking about fixing the car and selling it.

I wouldn't go to the expense if the valves are in good shape. especially if you plan on selling it. Getting the money back out may not be too easy, depending on mileage, etc. If you do need valves, a reman head would be more economical in most cases. Sad but true...

I have priced the valve job and it will be around 450 total. Im just being lazy lol had this motor torn apart to many times for my personal liking. All in all if valves are fine ill reset and run it till its sold if not new head and sell. I didnt pay anything for the car but i have put over 800 into it. If i can sell for 1500 ill be happy.
