Neon engines from '03 to '05, or (DOHC) 2.4 PT to '10 are your choices. 2.0 (SOHC) is only to '05 tho.

So if I where to replace it with an 03-05 it would be straight out swap nothing else required but if I go dohc than I would need ecu key harness transmission and all that correct?

Why can he only use 03-05 2.0? Wats different with the earlier motors

x2

I figure a couple of sensors would be different at most.

2003-2005 are the 'NGC' motors.
The crank position sensor is in a different location on the 'NGC' engines, compared to the 1995-2002 engines.
The notches on the crankshaft, are in a different location on the crank and are 'triggered' differently - so it's not just as simple as mounting the crank sensor in a different location.

So, a 2003 Neon, will have to stay with a 2003-2005 2.0 NCG engine.

(A 2002 Neon, for example, could run a 1995 2.0 engine, but not a 2003 2.0 engine.)

You can run a DOHC motor (NGC) with the SOHC PCM, by making the cam sensor connector wires long enough to reach. But you may need to change some A/C stuff, PS lines, and definitely the engine mounts.

IIRC, on NGC, the cam magnets do not need turned.

Basically search around the swap section, project logs where swaps are done, etc, for more specific details.

In a way, a 2.4 makes more sense for NGC folks, as the production run was from 2002/2003 to 2010 vs 2003 to 2005 for the (domestic)2.0

There is a much bigger supply out there.
