I made a HUGE CAI mistake ;)

I order a cold air intake off of ebay (it was cheaper than dirt) but I accidentally ordered ad blue one and its too late to change my order. My car is yellow and a blue one would just look silly. I have some extra yellow paint tucked away from a bumper replacement and I was wondering if the paint would hold up to the heat. I doubt that it would get too hot but I just wanted to double check before I made a silly looking CAI look even more silly.

Blue and yellow actually works... Btw if its the same one I got its more purple blue. I was pissed about that. Also u should get a better filter before rainy season

Blue and Yellow were my high school colors... But the intake would end up being the only blue thing in my car...

Its been raining plenty around here already but I can avoid driving in the rain (one of the perks of being unemployed). I'm thinking about getting one of the bypass valve thingies also on ebay but I want to look more into the reliability before I buy one.

you could always get hi-temp spray paint and paint it if the other doesnt hold up

If the paint I have doesn't hold up I think I'll just sand it down and say I went with the :quotes: brushed aluminum :quotes:

That doesn't count! lol

I'm thinking I'll install it and go for a bit of a test drive on the interstate and see how warm it gets before I mess with it.

Um, Go Michigan?

You need to worry more about how hot it gets after you drive it, and shut it off. There will be no air moving to cool things then.

I put a remote thermometer in my air box back in the day when I had an air box. As long as the engine was running, the temps were the same as ambient. Even when it was 90ºF +. It was only when I parked it, that the temps would rise.

it's not that big of a deal.. I'd say just buy another one since they're so cheap. Then sell the one you bought on here, ebay, or locally.

Who cares if you mess up paint? It's a cheap ebay CAI, nbd. sand it down and respray or buy a new one

In all, you will be just fine with normal paint. My Mustang TB is painted with regular spray RustOleum, and it is holding up just fine. Been a few years now.

I believe I top coated it with this:

SWEET!!! Evidence!

I'm really starting to like the idea of a cai that matched the rest of my car.

This is where the TB is mounted. Full blast of heat dierectly from the radiator.

I think your CAI will be fine. ;)
