Hey folks. More curious about this than anything. I checked my oil about 2 weeks ago and it was perfectly fine. In the middle of min and max. Checked it 2 days ago and it was slightly lower than minimum. Im not aware of any leaks i have because theres never a spot under where i park or anything. Have any ideas on what could have caused this?

Car has about 130k, and is almost due for an oil change if that has an affect on anything

Your probably burning oil. Over time your piston rings wear and the seal it creates isn't as good so oil slowly gets into the combustion chamber. Also could be from your pcv being bad. Wen did you replace it last?

Couldn't hurt to check on it. Just take it out and test it. Make sure its not stuck open or closed

In addition, with most engines as they get up in the miles, the closer to an oil change, they seem to use it faster.

Of course there are the ones that never use any regardless. Like My XJ 4.0. It just makes up for it in fuel.

But then it has had full synthetic since it's first 1000 miles. I changed the oil at 500, then 1000. after the 1000, it has been every 3000 with mainly two brands of synthetic.

The neon, the owner before me claimed to use synthetic, but who knows what was in it before him, but I can say that it has had it from 69,000 miles. Can't say it has really helped, but like said, I don't know the history before that. The damage may have been already done.

I currently use dino oil, as the synthetic drops a quart per tank of fuel. I have to give the high mileage stuff credit, it does seem to stave off the consumption the best out of them all.
