i have a broken valve lash adjuster how do i replace them its a 2.0 sohc i have been told to replace the rocker but i also heard you can put new ones in. Pleas help thanks....terry

Nope, they cannot be replaced in the rocker. You have to replace the entire assembly.

New ones from Mopar are quite expensive. If you can source a set from a low mileage JY car, it would be the best bet. Especially if you need them all.

These should be available new, from RockAuto.com.
Give them a try, if you can't find a good used one in the junkyard.

Still about $315 for the cheaper priced ones from RA.

Better than $637.60 from your local dealer. About $500 shipped from an online Mopar Dealer.

But unless you want to start fresh, with all new parts, I would still try to get some as cheaply as you can from a sealed JY engine.

I would take rocker shafts and all, being sure the lash caps are intact, plastic retainers on the lash caps are there and decent. Leave the cap screws in the shafts to keep everything from sliding off. Then just swap the entire assy for ease of install. With the screws in place, you will know the shaft is in right side up. There are also notches at one end that should be up. Just in case.

Maybe soak them in a pan of oil, until you are ready to swap them. Fix any spark plug tube issues while you have the VC off, and also replace the gasket.

The oem ones used to be alot cheaper a few years ago.


Like I said before, I'm glad I snagged to overstock ones from Mancini for a song. They are the early 1gn style, but work just fine in my R/T head I got from them. I think I got all the intakes for $18

But they seem to have gotten rid of most of the neon related stuff. Just wanted it gone I guess.

There were some smokin' deals on complete (nearly new, or new) engines a while back, but the funds weren't there to take advantage...

I guess I'll have to start keeping an eye out in the junkyards, for 'lower-mileage' valvetrains.

Occasionally, I'll come across examples that have less than 100,000 miles on them.

Meh, as long as the oil is kept up with they last well past 100,000. I had ~174,000 on mine when I swapped the R/T head on, and they were still quiet. They are now serving duty on the daughter's 1gn.

What i found to be the biggest factor in my valvetrain noise, was the valve guides. After I had the worn exhausts replaced with the valve grind, it was nearly silent. I could hear the injectors clicking again.

I think ditching the hydro tensioner helped a bit too.

Howell Automotive has the full set, exh and int on sale for $299.99. I have been running these on my 2000 ES for 2 yrs and they are still quiet. just sayin. Be sure to do as Bill says and soak them in oil before installing, no matter where you get them.
