Out of gas - FIXED! Timing belt shredded.

I think I ran my car out of gas. It was on E ... when I came home then I was washing it and went to pull it in the garage I see the check engine light. I turned the car off and thought about it for a while, then decided to turn the car back on and look under the hood. the car started stalling that's when I realized it was prolly out of gas. I went and got 2 gallons of gas and poured it into the tank. Now it wont turn over. I need help quickly lol. honestly since fuel injection I don't know what to do... yeah.. grampa, i'm showing my age. PLEASE HELP!

try turning the key over and then holding down the gas pedal for a few seconds then remove your foot from the pedal, repeat those steps and see if it turns over. i had a similar issue, thought it was out of gas, put 2 gallons in it and nothing.
i changed my fuel pump (thinking that was the main issue) and still had problems. eventually all my issues went away when i changed the Cam sensor. hope this helps, cam sensors are cheap so maybe try swapping in a new one if you can

yeah this helps. sounds like I did exactly what you did and I was just gonna go out and get a new fuel pump but its like 220$ and I really doint wanna fork that out till I know I've exhausted all resources. But why would the cam sensor have anything to do with it? And where is it?

From what I PM'ed you:

You may need to add more gas. Sometimes it takes at least 5 gallons in the tank to re prime the pump.

running a tank that low could also indicate that it sucked up some sort of sediment in the bottom of the tank clogging the filter, if the pump is turning on, and no fuel is getting to the rail, the filter could be clogged.

I've put about 4.5 gallons of fuel in it. tried starting it and still no start, it sounds ALMOST starting. maybe more gas? In the mean time I did hook it up to a computer. its getting a p0700 and p0562. My wife also said it was blowing smoke out when it was trying to start. I'm gonna go look up the codes. The p0700 looks to me like its just a generic code to basically say that I have a code? but it does have something to do with transmission. P0562 is system voltage engine side too low ? not sure what that means.

well p0700 is a trans code... not just a generic code. that won't stop the engine from starting. however, p0562 is battery voltage low. if your battery is junk, it won't start your car. now before you say that "oh, it's brand new. it can't be junk". check the connections and such as well.

now its not reading any codes and still wont start. I've unhooked the scanner and pulled the negative cable off the battery and cleaned it. still no start and no code. GAH! I think that 0562 code probably came from me cranking on it for so long last night and today that I had to recharge it.

there's no codes now cause you unhooked the battery... take a volt meter and check your voltage on your battery

I have a voltage meter in my car. it stays at 13v almost all the time, and 8 when I crank it.

Shouldn't generally drop below 9, but that is an old rule of thumb. But the coil does run on 12 volts, so if there are no voltage drops through the ASD relay, the coil is 4 volts low. It might be enough to affect the spark, if the plugs got flooded a bit, it might be plenty.

If you have a way to jump it, I would try that. Might get you enough voltage to make everything happy.

If you ran out of gas andd now it wont start when it was working fine before hand odds are youre not getting fuel from A to B

For you to run out of gas and all of a sudden have tranny codes and cam sensor issues ...meh.

Start with the fuel and once you know its spraying you know its not fuel. If youre not even getting it passed the fuel pump no need to go any further.
But only testing will verify the delivery. There are fuses and relays and all kinds of things to check. Just start at the beginning and follow the fuel.

If you get to the point you think its good, then start tracking down the spark.

fuel or spark. its one or the other. if you didnt run out of fuel id say start with spark.

I have checked all the fuses, I know its not that .. for sure. I'm going to get my battery tested and pick up a can of ether (sp). i'll let you know how it turns out. If my car starts up then dies, I know its the fuel pump.

ether isn't a good idea on fuel injected vehicles, but do what you want. you really need to test the ASD situation like bill said

tested the battery and its fine. as I figured. tried starting fluid and it still wont turn over. so I guess now its on to the spark plugs? I did swap out the ASD relay with another relay. still the same problem..

well shit. that didn't work either. I have a feeling its the fuel pump, but I hear It when I turn the key to on. I really don't wanna shell out 200$ but I need it up and running by tomorrow.

do you have a shrader valve on the fuel rail?

if not disconnect the fuel line at the rail and see if gas comes out the line when you prime it, or take the relay for the fp and hold it open. (obviously make sure you have something there to capture the gas with.

on the driver's end of the fuel rail. however, try disconnecting the fuel rail, does gas spray out?

I did that and the fuel does prime through the line when I turn the ignition on.

well I replaced the relay fuse with another fuse and it still didn't start. so, is there anything else I can go to test this?

well there's more to electrical than fuses and relays. wiring is a big issue. check for voltage at the middle pin of the coil connector with the key in the on position
