That's a tough one, not sure which works better without a cat or muffler. I've been told that resonators are more to eliminate rasp and not so much the loudness.

I've also heard good things about the spiral flow mufflers, somebody on here had them and was pleased.

I have 2 flowmaster 18in mufflers in my tunnel. It sounds good to me. No resonator or Cat. The last muffler I had was an obx dual tip that broke inside and rattled like angry wasps in a coffee can with the turtle man.

Lol, with a 3" pipe, you aren't going to get much from either. There isn't much room left for packing.

Unless you have boost, the pipe size is killing power in 90% of your power band...

But resonators do lower sound levels, from what I have used, resonators do a better overall job than a GP.

Good to know !!

I suppose it may be possible, to run both a resonator, and a shorty glasspack, for even more sound dampening..... :-k
If my current exhaust 'build' turns out to be too loud, this might be what I will do.

I have heard good things about the Spiral Flows as well - supposed to flow really well, while doing a decent job of dampening sound.
That, is another possibility.

I used to just use a muffler but it was raspy and hideous in high RPMs. I added a glasspack in the middle of the mid pipe and it smoothed out the exhaust tone.

Hi, Scott,
When you say, 'just a muffler', you mean no cat.... Am I correct ??

Yes, cat converters help dampen the exhaust tone on a Neon... A LOT.

I *tried* running one of my Neons ('95 ATX) with a Dynomax muffler, but no
cat... for 3 days.
I HATED it. It sucked. It was way too buzzy and annoying.
I ended up installing the cat back on the car, which helped a lot.

The Vibrant Ultra Quiet should make you happy. It would have to be as close to the engine as possible, or in/after the rear suspension area, as it wont fit in the tunnel too well.

I have no cat had that one jammed in the tunnel (1gn), and rasp was basically zero. The Vibrant bullet resonator helps, but it is still nothing like the Ultra Quiet. I only had to remove it due to the 2.4 swap raising the exhaust higher in the tunnel. I may eventually re do the down pipe, or add a cat.

With the turbo being sort of a muffler anyways, I think you will be happy with the Ultra Quiet. It isn't really that quiet on it's own, but it greatly improves things. In all, I will say it is worth the ~$100.

I had an srt exhaust on my 04 sxt and without the glasspack I added it droned horribly on the highways and just sounded raspy as crap. I added a 32" cherrybomb glasspack to the midsection and with the headers I had the exhaust sounded amazing from outside the car. Was exactly what I wanted. I currently have some ebay resonator on a 3" exhaust and it sounds good but I honestly liked the sound of my sxt better. We all have different taste so its more of a preference thing but I think I enjoyed the sound of the glasspack better. It sounded more racecar like and not so honduh. When I win the lotto I'm getting a new exhaust for the srt...
