Looping heater core question.

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Looping heater core question.

Post by titansxt » Thu Apr 24, 2014 8:29 pm

I've gotta do this to get my car running again. Who here has done this and what size pipe/tube/whatever did you use? I'm unfamiliar with what the ID of our heater lines are.

Is it also just as simple as cutting the lines and installing a loop or is there more involved?

Thanks again Occasional Demons (what is your name anyways?) and Frank for all of your quick responses.
Looks like 1/2" tube. Or you could get a section of preformed heater hose that makes a 180º. Regular straight hose will just kink.

Thanks again. For others who might see this, it is best to make the bend(s) as wide as possible to keep the coolant flowing smoothly at all engine speeds.

This is nearly identical to what sidepipe and I did to "fix" my heater core problem. Couple 90s soldered up and painted black.

I've had 0 coolant loss since, no leaks, and my two bends don't have that spacer in it. It's just two 90s. Works like a charm  until next winter I suppose...

I can get pictures if anyone needs to see another version of what OD posted.

^ ideal! Thankfully someone had recently re-plumbed their wash closet and spare plumbing parts lying around.

Heh. Parts made from Elkhart, IN, lying around in Pittsburgh just for me to drive from Elkhart and use them.
