Stock Neon compression rating for test?

Post by Black_on_Black_Neon » Thu May 15, 2014 10:47 pm

Im going to compression test my 02 Neon r/t tomorrow. I would like to know what the wet/dry compression is supposed to be?

And when you do the test, you take out 1 plug at a time and crank it 3 times?

If you know what stock numbers are, what would you think I would be pushing w 138k miles?

As always thanks for the advice!

compression should be 170-225 (new motor of course) with 25% max variation

Just pull all of the plugs, not that it makes a big difference. Crank it over with the gas pedal to the floor and keep cranking until the gauge stops rising. You'll usually see it stop rising by the time it spins over 10 revolutions. Dry should be in the range noted above with stock pistons and stock cam. Wet will always be higher.

With the minumum spec for used at 100 PSI.

It will run with less than 100, provided the variance is within 10%, but it will shake like a dog pooping razor blades with the A/C on (at idle). Or probably in gear with an ATX.

Seriously people, this is 2019 not 1920.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
