P0340 code came... and went ?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

P0340 code came... and went ?

Post by timk225 » Tue Aug 26, 2014 10:17 am

I was driving my 5 SXT ATX today and all was well, I haven't had to change a sensor or fix anything in 25000+ miles.

Then all of a sudden the check engine light comes on, and the engine loses power. To accelerate from a stoplight I had to just barely touch the gas, any more throttle would just make a big bog.

I thought it was a TPS sensor malfunction, so I pulled off on a side street and did the key on-off-on-off-on thing. Got the P0340 code and nothing else.

I looked it up on my iPhone and it said the cam sensor. I opened the hood and checked for any obvious damage, saw none. Didn't unplug any wires or anything.

Started the car back up and it had its power back and ran normally with the check engine light on.

I made a few stops here and there, and after 5-6 starts the check engine light went away.

Cam sensor on the edge of failure? I had picked up new cam and crank sensors at Pep Boys, but everything I read since last night says to ONLY use real Mopar sensors, so I will go get one.

We'll see what happens today........

I'll look for the thread on the P0340 code. Had to type the original message fast this morning before leaving for work. Car is still running fine, no CEL.

Changed the cam sensor this evening. Frickin' $71 with tax at the local dealer! This had better be the ONLY bad part!
