Coolant reservoir relocation with A/C dryer... pics?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Coolant reservoir relocation with A/C dryer... pics?

Post by haseebgill12 » Tue Sep 02, 2014 3:58 pm

I'm wondering if anyone can show me/ explain how they relocated their coolant reservoir with the A/C dryer in the common relocation hole (i.e. the hole behind the passenger side headlight).

Thanks

Use the rubber pocket from the dryer and buy a overflow tank that fits in there. That simple

I think he's saying his car is one of the ones that has the AC dryer in that spot, not back on the firewall and wants to leave it as such.... maybe?

bumpidy... sorry to be hasty but I really need this done asap.

I was thinking of simply using an ebay catch can in the stock location; feed a hose right to the bottom and one hose going out facing downwards in case of overheating/overflowing (also acts as the vent for expansion). The only thing i am concerned about is capacity, I think these cans can hold in the region of 1 litre. I can't really trial and error expansion tanks from other vehicles and make custom brackets as I simply can't spend much more time on this. Any help, pics in particular, would be appreciated.

Here's what you'll find: an overflow can that's the size of 20oz pop bottle (or smaller) will not be enough expansion.

I have a really nice little custom can just sitting on the workbench, because it don't hold enough juice. A regular sized catch can will be too small. Get a large (32oz) Nalgene style bottle, and drill a hole in the cap. Run the overflow line to that, and then find a place to zip tie that sucker.

On a custom turbo car you need even more expansion room than a stock N/A setup. Which is why even if you can get away with a liter or less on a stock car, it just doesn't cut it on a turbo setup.

I thought zip ties as well at the start but it is difficult to do on the firewall. Also, are you sure the quantity is right? I think 32oz is about 950 ml which is 50 ml short of a litre.
