Oil Pressure Sender

Hey Guys,

I got a Mopar Oil Pressure gauge and went to install it today and realized it could be difficult. Jason (Diablo0) told me which sender it is (rear of block, right side, has bright green connector attached) I jacked the car up and crawled underneath and could not see an easy or anyway for that matter to remove it.

Has anyone done this? I have read the service manual on this topic and its not terribly helpful. Thanks Folks

you probably need a deep well socket to slide over the switch to unscrew it. It should not be any harder than trying to remove an o2

It's not a typical socket... you're gonna need a oil pressure switch socket from Advance Autoparts, Autozone or some other store. Should only be a few bucks but it'll help you out a lot.

Putting the autometer sender in is gonna be a bitch though using a small open end wrech with your hand up there against the axle and k-frame.

Orginally i didnt have that tool that Jason is talkiing about. Me and my friend got it off with by twisting it with our hands....I dont recommend this. The tool makes it really easy.
As for puttuing the sending unit in, we also tried to put it in by twisting it, also not recommended bc i was leaking oil. I ended up taking mine out bc my gauges got stolen. Just a FYI for you, u will throw a code unless u make a T-fitting, which is really hard bc there is no room back there

****Edit

I got off my ass to look at the part. The part that i have says Performance Took, #w80590 size is 1-1 1/16 hope that helps

I probably will not get a code as this is the Mopar gauge and sender (Autometer) and it has connections on the back to hook up the ecu wires to.

is the sender just a gold looking thing??? bc if that green plug isnt plugged into anything then it will throw a code

I dunno about NGC cars but 00-02 if you unplugged the stock switch the oil light will not come on at all.

and EclecticBlue you can't connect the wires to the autometer gauge. the stock switch is that a switch only there to turn on the light when it reachs a certian pressure which from what i hear is very low and by the time the light comes on your nearly screwed anyway. the autometer unit is a pressure sender which sends the range of pressure of the oil to the gauge... stock switch is only an on-off unit.

I plan on doing this sometime. i have the gauge in, just haven't got around to installing the sending unit. I'm planning on keeping my idiot light functioning,so i'm going to remotely mount the aftermarket sending unit on the firewall and use a premade T fitting. If i get this done soon i'll post some pics.

I had big plans to use a nice T fitting. There is no room back there. I had my plumbing chromed and everything....sucks

As Jason said though, my 01' mag throws no codes. Plus, if your idiot light is on, your car is probably already toast anyway..

can anybody post a diagram or pics... i got a oil pressure gauge comming to me. its not the mopar one, but a ractive gauge. the part where i'm confused is the whole T fitting thing.

the tee fitting gos from the block into the tee one output gos to the stock sensor and the other to the aftermarket sensor...nothing too hard but there is no room back there.

I just have my plug dangling there, it tosses a code and the dummy light is on. im too lazy to try the tee right now though.

This summer ill try to work my grease monkey skills on it and try my best.

So, if you run an after market sensor and don't hook up the wire, (ie strip the end and put a ring terminal on it) you'll throw a code? and the idiot light is on? What would happen if you cut the connector off and put a ring terminal on and connect it to the new sender? That'd be pretty stupid of Mopar to sell something that throws a code...

Wont' work as the stock pressure switch is nothing more than an on-off switch when it drops below a certian pressure. The autometer sender sends a variable voltage to the gauge so it knows what to display.

The T-Fitting taken from neons.org

It does say that in 2k3 you will throw a P0522 code and the person cut the plug off and spliced it into the sender wire for the autometer sender. Said the light and code went away but he got incorrect readings and went with the T fitting.

Have fun assemblying the unit and getting it back there, there's next to no room. I'd just take the code and have the oil light on haha.

^ but if the stock unit is just an 'on-off' switch, can't we just either apply volage to it, ground it, or loop it?

also, what if the 't' fitting is flipped 90 degrees, would that give more room to work with?

Thats F*ckin' gay! Why would Mopar sell a part that throws codes? And If it is on or off, could I not do like DBLSG said and either loop it or ground it?

He mentioned grounding it in the post but said he still threw the code.

The OEM part is a "dry" contact from what I can tell. One wire should go to ground the other to a 12v source??
OK, where is dawm or kernelpanic? Those guys love wiring questions....

No. Its one wire in, the ground is taken through the switch into the block

Sorry, couldn't remember. Of course, mine could be different. I seem to have the only Magnum on the planet with a funny-shaped tranny-mount insert.
I just unplugged my stock unit and plugged the Autometer sending unit into the new wiring....no codes yet.

You can find the sender online at some shops... should be around $30 or so
