ok I feel like I know nothin about my car for saying this but, What type of gas should I use in a 2005 neon. The car has a low idle and you can hear the engine knock when I shut it off with the clutch out.

Please dont flame me or what not because I feel dumb enough for answering this question.

87 all the time. its alright to run higher octane but most people have found that it does nothing and basically wastes money. I run a tank of 91 on occasion, sometimes just to see if i can tell the diff after using 87 for months on end. dont use cheap gas, run top brand stuff. chevron, 76, shell, etc.

FWIW, there's very little difference beween most fuels. Discount fuel chains like Wawa or Sheetz use cheaper, different additives than places like Shell or Hess, but not really enough of a difference to our engines.
The only fuel with a real difference is the Sunoco? Super 94. There's definitely different additives in that.

I always run 93 in my neon...I know its supposedly a 'waste of money' but it seems to knock much less w/ the higher octane and seems to drive smoother. I NEVER put anything lower than that it, even when the gas prices were insance last fall and earlier this spring.

I run 87 in mine all the time. I think I remember reading somewhere that using a higher grade gas than what the engine was designed for will actually reduce performance and fuel economy because all of the fuel will not be burnt during the power stroke. Anybody else ever heard of anything like this?
