95 nyg srt4 swap... awd swap!!

Yes I said it. Awd swap.

First off what do I have you ask?? Well!

Shes a 1995 nyg coupe with factory manual steering. The swap came from a running 2005 srt4 with lsd trans, drilled slotted rotors, 3 inch exhaust, agp wastegate, hks bov, sdk mid mount, dsp I3 tuner, and aem boost/afr guages in a pod. I added some d2 coilovers to the mix for a better stance.

That brings us to now.
I currently came across a awd caravan and grabbed the transfercase from it. Obviously the spines don't match up but it will bolt on. So I disassembled the case after taking multiple measurements and will have a shop cut/pin/tig weld/ heat treat the input shaft using a dss stage 3 axle stub. As for the rear end. I will be using a modified subframe and drivetrain from a evo 10.

The rear gears will be custom cut locally to be within 1 percent of forward trans gears while in motion.

Rear spare wheel well will be cut out. With flat steel filling it in. Adding a 35 litre fuel cell.

Going from an AWD car back to the neon, one really has to watch how much throttle you give it on take off, or the tires go up in smoke. It certainly gives you appreciation for AWD in that aspect.

Even if it was some assistance from the rear tires it would help immensely on take off.

I'm not familiar enough with the AWD Caravan to know what the bias is. I guess as long as it's stout enough to handle the torque from the SRT...

Should be fun!

I'm looking into it for sure. Have a local shop checking the gears and case to see what it is capable of. If it isn't up to the task I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and have gears cut and case brackets made to hold it together.

Wow! IIRC, the lack of an AWD transmission is why DaimlerChrysler almost killed the Caliber SRT-4 (too bad that they went ahead and brought it to market IMO.

There's a guy on facebook, I cannot recall his name, but he is doing almost exactly this. Using an T850 transmission, a caravan PTO and rear end, and swapping it to all wheel drive. Honestly this is a great plan. A handful of turbo dodge guys on turbo-mopar.com figured out how to machine the housings on the older A555 transmissions to make the AWD stuff work and there's an AWD 2.4 swapped Omni running around out there. This is phenomenal. If you can, please document this as much as possible. I have a 90 Caravan I am going to 2.4T swap, and I'd love to eventually get an AWD drivetrain in it!

Also, I recognize the username from .org, welcome!

The Caliber uses the world motor, which is exactly the same as the Mitsubishi Evo X motor. People have swapped Calibers to AWD using those parts. In fact, Dodge used the Aisin (Japanese) BG6 in the Caliber SRT, which was also used in the eclipses. It makes me wonder if they didn't do the R&D into it because they knew they were going to dump the platform early.
