It "depends" on how you set it up, too.....TiNK wrote:i did the hlfahemi shift modon my 3 speed... and itwasnt worth the trouble....
Line pressure adjustment, and also the (precise) length of the 'rod' that you put in to replace of one of the springs will affect shift quality.
If you set it up so that there is almost no play or zero play, then it can make the shifts too harsh.
But anyways, this applies only to the "DIY" shift kit for the 3-speed ATX used on the 1st gen and early 2nd gen Neons.
Regarding the 4-speed transmission:
I read a long while back, in 'Mopar Now' (remember that mag?) about how Chrysler was experimenting with putting a Stratus 4-speed into the 1st generation Neons, and actually had a few test mules running around the proving grounds !!
The reason that they gave for the 4-speed not being used in production 1st gen Neons at that time, is because the engine compartment was so tight with that trans installed, that overheating of the trans was a problem.
Makes you wonder what could have been .... after all, if they were ABLE to (barely) fit a 4-speed ATX into the 1st gen Neons...... hmmmmm.
