i just got a 04 neon r/t about a month ago and i cant tell if the clutch is ok or if it needs to be replaced it catches pretty close to the top of the clutch throw and i can shift the car just by tapping the clutch bout an incch or 2 without any grinding does this mean the throwout bearing is always spinning? But anyways im not used to neons and i dont know if this is normal with this car what do you guys think?

you can change gears in any car with no clutch if you are good..... but I have the smae thing wiht my 2000 I barly have to press the clutch pedle in and I can change gfears with no problem..
and my clutch is fine..
I wouldnt be worried unless it starts grinding / sl;ipping / or if there is extra play in the pedal.

I mean make sure that if you press on the pedal with you hand getnally it doesnt go down like 4 inches.... I only say this becasue You can ajust teh clutch pedal ..
And I am no expert but I am sure there are others on here that could shed some light on this!

When I first bought my Neon, the clutch was light as a feather compared to what I was used to. So I guess that's just the way they are. If it catches a bit too high for your taste, I'd recommend this:

It took me 5 minutes and works like a charm.

well that will lower the pedal but i think he means its like a button and theres not much room for riding it....i thought mine was goin for the longest time but its still grabbin after a year of heavy abuse and it catches pretty high up also... i think ur fine..

ur fine. i can do the same thing. put ur car on 5th gear go on low rpm's (1000) and the put ur gas pedal to thr bottom. if ur rpm's fly up. it slipps and u need a new cluth. but other than that, ur good.

Wouldn't 5th gear be a little high? I don't know too much about clutches, but if I drop my car to first gear and punch it, the clutch doesn't slip and the car just pulls. Could have something to do with 21,XXX miles though.

5th gear puts a higher load on the engine. If it doesn't slip under a high load like being in 5th at a load rpm then your good to go.
