The 2000 service manual says..

"NV T350 (a-578) transaxles use Mopar Manual Transaxle Lubricant (MS-9417). Hypoid gear lube, engine oil, and/or automatic tranmission fluid should not be used in this transaxle.
Hard shifting effort, bearing, gear, and/or synchronizer failure may occur if incorrect fluid is used."

^I think that rule has changed quite a bit since 2000, but ill look it up in the ol FSM anyhow. Pretty sure the newer ones call for ATF, right?

When I drop the fluid from my 00 MTX this summer it's going to get a fill of GM Synchromesh, which is pretty much what the special mopar fluid is from what I can tell. Better to stick with what's in there than to switch to ATF even though it would be fine.

Should only put gear lube in trannies that say use gear lube.

I used mopar NV T350 fluid, $12 each qt, shifting is much better than before. I used like 2.5qt.

Yeah, because the tranny's are different. The early 2000's have a different PN# tranny.

Other options include:

AMSOIL MTF (synthetic)
Pennzoil Synchromesh (conventional)
Specialty Formulations MTFGlide (synthetic)
Specialty Formulations SynchroGlide (synthetic)
Mopar MS9417 fluid

Here is a thread on BITOG that I had back in August about this exact topic: http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/ ... Post522657

and another about whether to pick AMSOIL MTF or Redline MTL: http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/ ... Post731642

You can also use one of the many ATF's out there that claim to be appropriate for ATF+4 applications, such as:

Redline C+
AMSOIL Universal ATF
Valvoline ATF+4
Royal Purple (i believe they have one, can't remember the name)
Mopar ATF+4

But then I believe that you can use nearly any automatic trans fluid out there, and the reason that DCx says ATF+4 is because that's what they normally stock.
Would those be good choices for an SRT-4, I plan to buy some tomorrow or today....
Any in particular?

How many quarts does an SRT-4 tranny take if you were to flush and fill it?

Thanks.

actually i would be hesitant to put something other than the +4 in the NV-T850 trans. if you search srtforums you will find a large thread discussing this. many have stuck with the +4 or some other brand that is recommended for +4 applications, like the Redline C+ or the AMSOIL ATF

I read almost ALL the threads on SRTforums and so far Royal Purple Synchromesh is the best and has had the best reviews. The Amsoil ATF is a hit or miss. Some people get better shifting others get worse. The Amsoil MTX fluid is good, but when its cold out its not too good. The Synchromesh is designed for vehicles that took the ATF-4. Drexol 3 or w/e its called is what you have to watch out for, thats mainly GM and Ford.

Whats so bad about the Royal Purple? I have only heard good things about it...

never said anything bad about it. just saying i would be hesitant to put something other than +4 in. That would be any of the other synchromesh fluids.

one thing that caught my eye was that AMSOIL recommends their fluid for the NV-T350 but not the NV-T850, that threw up a little flag for me.
