This thread is a couple months old, but it reminded me of my old shop teacher and one of the things he mentioned they did in the '50s and '60s. He said they would grind every other tooth off the synchro's to make "crash boxes". Basically you could shift without lifting off the stupid pedal and no clutch. Strictly drag racing application. I don't think I would attempt it on a modern mtx though!

Used to do it all the time when I had V8 powered cars. I don't think the Neon tranny or shifter is up to the task. We used to adjust the clutch so that the release point was higher up, and when your hand was on the shifter you were actually pulling or pushing on it before you shift. This was to load the linkage and shift fork, that way as soon as you clutch it. it would pop out of the last gear and into the next. This was with standard H pattern shifter. Done right you shouldn't hear an increase in rpm when you shift.

I had a 69 Camaro with a 327 I used to do this with. One day I swapped out the light steel flywheel for an aluminum one. First time I try a powershift with the aluminum flywheel, I miss 2-3 and kill the engine. wish I had a vertigate shifter...
