well after about 5000 km's the reason as to WHY my transmission got replaced due to a RATCHETING sound, inside the transmission, yep.. its doing it again

heres how it is

In N.. and when I rev it and hold it steady at 2000-3000 rpm, preferrably cold or even warm (worse when cold), this causes the car to make a slight ratchet sound thats very random, ratchet clicking sound, that sounds like its coming from the side of the transmission in the wheel well.

as my first invoice from dodge says

"Transmission noise" Ratchetting noise, road tested confirmed noise, performed tsb 03-006-04 noise still present internal faults in transmission, replace assembly"

parts replaced

this sound has now came back and I'm furious, I'm going to make a video of it today to let everyone listen to this crazy sound.

anyone have any idea's what the heck is going on here?



I'm revving the car from outside, not even touching the clutch pedal, this is really pissing me off.

sounds like something's broke.....

mine does that aswell sounds link the clutch align things rattleing... mine has been doing it for like a year now.

I don't think it should be doing that at all.. screw that, it can't be normal.
its almost embarrising to drive around when it does it.

what if its not the tranny. it might be the driver side axel.. and you shouldnt hear any noise from the tranny when in neutral cuz the tranny is not working. if it makes the sound in neutral then it might be the engine or a mount thats loose.

I'm also thinkin this ^axle or something

the axle right before it goes into the diff has alot of play, can a mount make these sounds tough?

question, axles aren't doing anything either in N, so how can it be them? and I don't know how a mount can make a tap/click ratchet sound. and if its my engine what could it be? valves? something top end?

the sound quality of the video really sucks, but it almost sounds like a popping noise every time you let off the throttle, wich would be a backfire through the exhaust...
As for the so called TSB they apparently did, what TSB number is it?

On a mtx even when in neutral as long as the engine is running and clutch engaged the input shaft and gears are still rotating, as these are "constant mesh" mtx's. They aren't connected to the output until shifted into gear. The only cause the DCX service manual gives for "noises" is "insufficient lubricant" although the damage is done, I'd check the level at least for your own sake. if it's low I'd fill it before taking it back, especially if there are any signs of leakage. If there isn't and it's low then they didn't fill correctly. Best of luck what ever the problem is.

well heres an update

with the clutch in, the car doesn't make the same sound, at least I couldn't hear it inside the car with door open, so does that cancel out a faulty transmission now? and lead me more towards clutch/pressure plate?

throw out bearing was replaced when tranny was done as well, as far as they told me

i know the modular clutches are prone to noise w/ the clutch pedal out, same as pt whciih i think is the same part number, but dont quote me.

I know my pt makes a ton of noise w/ no pedal input in neutral...just cant hear it over the exhaust. If the centering plate came off the flywheel that would mak a ton of noise but wound't negatively affect anything.

You did tell them it does this in neutral right?

Who revs there car in neutral anyways? If it doesn't make the noise when you just driving around or have the clutch in, don't worry about it...

The car is fine.

It should be normal when it's in neutral...

If it's just rattling but not clunking sound, you're fine.

it does that sound while driving as well.. just so you guys know.. under acceleration.

So seeing as how the thread got deleted, I'll ask here.

What did the dealer find because I really what to know what the problem is.

So how do you check the fluid level of an MTX? I wonder if my fluid level is low. I get a weird clunking, but its when I hit bumps and things and so I think its the bearing that screams around corners...

But I do have fluid under the tranny that is a clear brown color.

a clunk over bumps is probably suspension, not tranny.

does it make the noise with the clutch pedal pushed in?


EDIT: i just re-read the post where you said it doesn't make the noise with the clutch in, that is indicative of a bad TOB

I am sorry, I merged two problems into one.

First I have oil under the transmission on the drivers side under the axle. The transmission was switched a few months back as the old one went bad from who knows. I had just bought the car and then the transmission died. So now I don't want my new(er) expensive to fix transmission failing again. I have not had any problems with it, once it slipped out of reverse, but I don't think it was in all the way to begin with. And once or twice it didn't like down shifting but I think that was my fault honestly. I just worry about the fluid underneath.

Ok so there is a plug on the drivers side that I can pop out and examine. If some fluid comes out the level is good? Drivers side from the top or under the car? Is it near anything to help find it?

The other problem started after being on a dirt road so I think its wheel bearing because the steering wheel shakes at high speed now, there is a screaming around corners and clunking on bumps. Tierods are new.

I am most worried about transmission right now. Whats TOB??

dude it can also be the exhaust headers bolts. mine did the same so after i had checked everything and found nothing I turned to the manifold. turned out the bolts were loose, all 7 of 8..you have to take off the heat sheilds first..

exhaust manifolds?!!? ahhaha you have to hear my car in person to know what it does... and trust me thats an old video.. and finally our cars do not have headers.. its just a manifold, designed by borla I beleive... I think mine is leakin in the first place, or I have really loud injectors.. or typical piston slap, who knows.. its a neon its normal!

I can start the car up now and it does it all by itself at idle, rattling and banging away

I'm doing the clutch this friday along with a new TOB.... hopefully this will resolve my issue

I got the tranny fluid frushed 4 days ago, fluid came out super clean so I'm pretty sure my transmission is fine.
