Clutch does not disengage...oh snap?

Post by 60trim » Mon Feb 18, 2008 2:02 pm

As the title says. Was driving a friend home, engaged the clutch to shift into gear, gear wouldn't go in, rengaged the clutch again, noticed I had no pressure on the pedal. I at that piont had pulled over, called triple AAA, had it towed to my house.

My ultimate quesiton is, do you think its the Master and slave cylinders? Symptoms: No pedal pressure what so ever. Will go into gear when the car is off, but when the car is on it will only stay in nuetral even when the clutch is suppose to be disengaged. Any help would be appreciated.

Status: 03 Dodge Neon MTX
Clutch: 6k miles on it.

Update, found out the problem. My slave cylider is leaking brake fluid all over the place. Looks like I found the issue. How hard is it to replace? I've read the FSM and it seems pretty straight forward. Is there anything I should keep my eyes peeled for while doing this job. Plan on bleeding the clutch system once its all replaced. Thanks again.

Alright, another update. Got the new slave cylinder installed. The hardest part was getting the stupid dowel pin out of the old SC. Now, after installing the new one, I had noticed that there was a hole in the external part of the cluth fork. The old SC punched a hole in it causing it to fail and leak. Watch out MTX guys and gals. I'm going to have to drop my tranny to replace the clutch fork all because the old sc punched/ ground a hole in it. The dealership said that they have heard of this, but its rare. Keep an eye on those clutch forks.
