Transmission Problem

Post by Xtian » Sat Mar 01, 2008 9:58 pm

Just bought my 2002 SE. 78K miles ATX.
And I have a problem with the tranny. :(
When I am about to stop, either on a stop-light or just on my driveway the car shakes. When backing the the lights don't work too. Called my dealer, he said that I need to shift to 2nd or 1st when stopping, and shift to Drive while accelarating.
What do you think it is?

One more thing I forgot. When backing, not only the lights don't work, there is a really loud noise coming from the front of the car like the emergency brake is on... :( ?!?

What a line of crap! As far as the back up lights, there could be a fuse blown or the switch on the ATX is bad. IIRC the back up switch is built into the park/neutral saftey switch on ATX's check the bulbs also the shaking could just be worn motor mounts/torque struts, in conjuction with the famous IAC issue. Put it in park and open your hood and rock the car back and forth while watching the motor, if it is flopping back and forth in the engine bay it's time to replace the torque struts or put some inserts in at the least. I'm sure taking it back isn't an option, as most used cars are "with no warranty, as is". Never hurts to hassle them over it. Hope you get it worked out. buying used can be a real PITA. I've looked at about 5 now and so far no luck, all junk and top dollar...

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
