Do you mean an upgraded ATX valve body or the RMVB (Reverse Manual Valve Body) what a performance valve body will do is make the tranny shift "better"? The RMVB will turn your auto into a clutchless manual.

The valve body is pretty much what controls shifting. There are a bunch of small passages that go to different parts of the tranny with different pressures to control what happens and when. This isn't so much on the 4 spd ATX as it is on the 3 spd since the 3 speed all mechanical. The clutchless manual is going to be the RMVB and I think modernperformance.com sells them. If you just want to keep it automatic but have better shifting you're looking for the performance valve body.

Also you can try to adjust the kickdown cable. It's supposed to tighten up shifting as well. Theres a thread about how to do it somewhere.

One last thing Hermon NY, how far is that from Utica?
