Are 03-05 trannys all the same.. Tranny went out in an 03 sxt. The junkyards say they are year specific and are not interchangable.. I believe they are and just need to verify.
also if they are not can someone tell me why...

They are all the same, all tranny's will work on our cars from any year of neon. Even the SRT4.

I know any year tranny will bolt in. I just wanted to make sure 03 - 05 trannys were a direct swap.. Because i have an 03 and all the junkyards have 04's and 05's...

The only difference is in the bell housing from 00 and 01+. The 01+ have a hydro clutch where as the 00 have cable clutches, the bell housings can be swapped though. The trannys themselves are the same. Even PT cruiser trannys will swap.

My bad, edited for future reference.
In the case of an ATX all 03+ are the same 4 speed electronically controled tranny whereas 02 and below were all mechanical 3 speeds.

Atleast some 2002 neons did have the 4 speed automatic.

And the '02's (A604)are geared diffrerently, the 03-up are better suited to the 4 cyl. engines. I think there is a write-up somewhere on Allpars' site.
"Automatic transmission thankfully retuned, with a new engine/transmission computer and new engine mounts for a quieter interior. The manual has also been changed so that the fifth gear is higher, allowing better gas mileage and lowering highway noise. We can say that the automatic is far better in the 2003s, with less hesitation and more acceleration - as well as better mileage."
There is a more detailed write-up somewhere, but I don't recall where.
