$45?!
go buy one, stick it in your trunk, and get someone to install it. You could have a mtx swap for around $800 for labor.

I'll go look at my car tomorrow, and post tomorrow the wiring details. The wiring, in regards to the transmission and neutral saftey stuff is really easy. Only 3 wires to mess with.

He has an '02 which should be a 4 speed. whole different animal. the 3 speed uses the same VSS as the MTX the 4 speed does not.
To the best of my knowledge, the VSS (speed sensor) is the major thorn in the swap for A604/40TE to MTX. There are a few threads, but I haven't seen a definate solution. Other than swapping PCM's in the NGC cars, but the '01-'02's don't have that option. All I can suggest is trying to wire the MTX sender to the ATX wire. It will need to be extended tho.

occasional demons wrote:The ATX VSS generates 8000 pulses per mile, but the FSM doesn't give any details for the MTX. I have a post some where on here with the details. But the method is basically the same the gear just drives the pulse generator which sends the signal to the PCM, which converts that to a value for the speedometer. Being that the PCM's are different for each trans. I can't say for sure that the pulse/mlie is the same. PPL that have done the MTX swap should be able to give some insight if their speedo's are working and reasonably accurate. But NGC PCM's may be another ball game.

Don't know how it turned out tho, no follow up.

You'll want to combine the( brown/ or black ) and yellow striped wire with th white wire, that essentially connects to the white wire on the other end and then purple to purple.

Hope that helps sorry for the late response I forgot...
