Vibration in First gear

Post by latief » Thu Feb 26, 2009 8:01 pm

I have a bit of strange/ very brief vibration when launching in first gear. it feels like i have mount inserts although i don't have any. all my mounts are good except for the upper one which i am in the process of replacing....

what is the chance this is a clutch issue? because that it how it feels to me .....

thanks,

If it is only when the clutch is being engaged, then it is most likely the clutch. Mine will shudder a little when cold. If it is severe, or constant (does it every time regardless of how long it's been driven) then prolly getting time for a new clutch. Mine will generally go away after one or two times in the morning. It is even normal when I leave work. Which after 8 hrs, you would think it would be the same as in the morning.

My R/T does that every morning, too. Mainly when getting near about 2.5-3k in first. But just that first time. It's fine after that. I assumed it was just the cold, too.

yes, mine does it every morning especially when weather is damp over here.....i've had that since the clutch was new...

this is different, it feels like the whole engine shudders ever so slightly when moving from a stop on first gear....i suspect either the weak engine mount which i will be changing, a tranny mount, or an engine or tranny/clutch issue since my engine does not feel very healthy lately (very under powered at 130,000miles).....

ideas?

So it does it with the clutch fully engaged? Then as you accelerate through 1st gear....

It is prolly just hard spots on the flywheel/pressure plate. If the engine is running less than optimum, it may make it feel worse.
Maybe do a complete check up on the engine: compression test seafoam etc. I have 135,000 and it still runs strong. But then my valve guides only have 23,000 on them.

I think I would get that when pumping the clutch a lot while sitting in traffic. Couple good rips through the gears would generally fix it.

can you explain that more? I have cable clutch by the way, does that make a difference?

i would just charge through 1st or 2nd and rip it into the next gear. don't know if it really did anything or if it was my mind, but it wouldn't do that after a couple of those.

if it's the clutch itself i don't think it being cable or hydraulic would matter.
