Notchy Shifting...(SRT4)

Over the past month the shifts have got real notchy feeling. It goes into gear fine and the clutch has less than 1K miles on it. It has a little play once its in gear so I probably need bushings, but would anything else cause it to be notchy? Would changing the fluid make a difference?

I think that's just a symptom of an SRT4. Get some boogers and you'll be straight.

You can go about it 2 ways.
You can change the tranny fluid and add friction modifier. However it breaks down the tranny fluid faster, so me personally, I change my trans oil every 6 months or so.
Or not add it at all.
I would also spend the money and purchase the billet steel shift selectors.
Once you get a notchy feel to the trans, it is usually an indication of synchro assembly and gear wear or a fork/snap ring issue. Once it starts popping out of gear you are on borrowed time.
A short throw will not solve this. Save your money. However you CAN readjust the shifter cables.

Another thing that has really helped with the notchy shifting has been my Bwoody motor & transmission mounts. That is to go along with the STS and the booger bushings.

I cant have solid mounts though. Thats my only major problem. Im thinking I need new fluid cause it set up for a year after it was wrecked then I got it, fixed it and been driving it. I bet its broke down the trans fluid and I doubt its ever been changed. Im gonna get Redline manual trans fluid next week for it and change it.

Would low fluid have anything to do with it?

Fluid should be changed about every 15k miles. It does help. I my self use royal purple synchromax w/o the LSD additive. No ill affects and I know several other people that go about their transmission fluid the same way.

So it should help the shifts? Its not hard to get in gear it just feels notchy but idk. Ill change it and see.

Use GM trans fluid. It's the best out there. There are a zillion threads about this on SRTForums just FYI
