You would probably have to switch everything to a 2002 4 speed computer.
2002 was the only non-NGC year with the 4 speed.
Another issue could be communicating with an 05 TCM. I don't know if there would be an issue with that but either way in the end it would be a pretty expensive venture.
Remember the 3 speed that your car came with is hydraulic, the 4 speed is electronic.

mate get a manual, I've had nothing but issues with my 4 speed ATX...I would have swapped it over for a manual if it wasn't so expensive here..

well the '05 "TCM" is part of the PCM.
So The '02 thing may work, but IIRC, they changed the solenoid pack connector at some point in time. So that may be an issue, let alone, changing the entire underhood harness to make it work. I doubt the '00 harness would be wired for the needed TCM and link to the PCM. All '02 and older controllers are separate. IDK if an '02/older solenoid pack will work on an '03 up ATX either. (to get around the potential connector issue) There are other changes in the case for the valve body location, but IDK if that affected the newer 4 cyl stuff. I think it was mainly a V6 41te change.

i wish i could do a manual swap but the car is still under my mom's name and i leave it at home when i go to school and she cant drive an mtx so she refuses to let me... so i have to try and find a replacement atx or i was thinking about buying a rebuild kit... dont know if i will be able to do it myself though

Exactly. She'd be learning to drive a stick real quick lol.

You can find the 31th (3 speed atx, what it currently has) For fairly reasonable used also. Have you taken it anywhere to get an estimate on rebuild, or diagnosis? Depending on what is wrong, it could just need a TC, or filter change. The 3 speed is the more durable (ATX) choice, also.
If it is used for primarily city driving it wouldn't really benefit her/you to have the 4 speed, as it will rarely see 4th for extended periods of time, and may fail earlier, due to having to constantly shift in/out of 4th. If you use it for highway a lot, the MTX would be the best choice.
The 4 speed ATX, would be the last choice, just due to the PITA stated in the above posts. It would also need the speedo programmed at the dealer, and a few other things, to function correctly.

i have absolutely no money or a way to get my car to the shop unless i drive it backwards... (which is how i got it home from where it got dropped off)... i am almost positive it is completely shot because i only have reverse and neutral. all of the other gears function as neutral... plus i dont really have much experience with tranny swaps so i wouldnt want a project that took too long... i guess i will just keep searching for a replacement 3 speed.. thanks everyone

Yep, it's done. Replacing with like kind will prolly be the easiest route.

yeah thats what i was thinking... it is the only mode of transportation i have so as much as i would love to swap an mtx in i just need it back and running... now i just need to find a tranny for a good price so i can try and fix it before i am home for the summer so i dont have to ride the trolley to work haha
