ATX to MTX: Hydro on a 2000

Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

ATX to MTX: Hydro on a 2000

Post by Forest Green 2k » Sun Mar 20, 2011 2:29 pm

Car: 2000 ATX Non-skim

I'm in the process of getting parts together for my MTX swap and I found the 2000 pedal assembly I need. I also came across a 3.94 hydro from a 2g r/t. Would I have to do any extra modifications as opposed to installing a cable 3.94 to get this to work? I heard I might have to modify the bellhousing and will it work with the 2000 pedal assembly?

Thanks

You'll want to replace the bellhousing.

Switch over from the hydraulic bellhousing, to the cable-type bellhousing from a 1st Gen or 2000 Neon.

My understanding (based upon what I have read here) is that there are some firewall changes that were made to the Neon, in order to run the hydraulic system.
So if you want to change to a hydraulic clutch system on a 2000 Neon, you may have to perform some modifications to the firewall, but I don't know what, exactly.

Try doing a search on this topic..... I have seen it discussed here before.

I believe this is correct. When Nitehawk did Seispiroths SRT swap they had to cut and weld some stuff on the firewall to be able to use the hydraulic T850.

Wow. THAT brought back memories....

But also, that was a different bellhousing that a standard neon's hydro.

I can't picture what is different on the firewall that needs to be changed, but if you have a hydro trans, and a hydro pedal set....I don't think it's as hard as putting a T850 in...

The 2000 firewall has no provision for the master cylinder. you need to get an '01 up firewall, and cut the area out on both, and weld it in place, so everything lines up correctly with the pedals.

I think it will just be a lot easier to find a 1st gen 3.94 or I maybe have to settle for a 95-00 3.55 :(

Thanks a lot of the input guys, appreciate it.

You can use the 2nd gen 3.94 MTX, you'll just need to swap the bellhousing, with one from a 1st gen (or 2000) MTX.
That will allow you to run the cable setup.
