Hey guys, been a while. I have a 05 sxt neon. The wife called me and said " My car won't go". I met up with her in a parking lot to find out that the trans fluid is being pumped out of the coolant reservor over flow spout. I have heard that the trans cooler is iside the radiator, and if the cooler breaks the trans fluid is contaminated or vise versa. Is there any truth to this.

Definitely. Get ready to spend some $$.

If you are lucky it has only gone from the ATX to the coolant. If the stuff in the trans is still red and clear, the transmission is prolly still safe. If you can't do the work yourself, have it towed to a repair shop to have the engine flushed, the radiator replaced, and an auxiliary cooler installed to bypass the in tank cooler, to prevent this from happening again.
Options:

If you don't want to spend for a new radiator, the cooler tubes may be sealed, so coolant won't leak from them. If you do that, the next thing is a requirement.

If you go with an auxiliary cooler, since you are in Michigan, I recommend a Perma Cool oil thermostat. Summit Racing sells them. The 40te ATX doesn't like running too cold. The Perma Cool thermostat will keep the cooler bypassed until 180ยบ F, which will keep the trans happy, and moisture from forming sludge.

Best of luck.

If the car won't go I'd say it's junk. Dad drove his all the way to work with it doing it because he had no choice but it never got so bad that it wouldn't go anymore and the tq was junk.

Better hope it doesn't plug up the heater core also.

I think from his description, it won't go due to lack of fluid. It is all in the cooling system. If it has only gone into the coolant, and the coolant hasn't entered the ATF, there is still a glimmer of hope.

shit
