Stratus R/T manual trans?
Here's a crazy question: the Stratus (sedan) R/T was offered with the 2.7L V6 and a 5-speed.
What 5-speed was used?? T850? A588?

Yup t-850 was used. The bellhousing bolts are different then a 4cyl though. Final drive ratio is between 3.55 and 3.94. I wanna say its like 3.73
Jimbo in mi on neons.org has one in his v6 1gn and has the gear ratio specs.
Another thing is the 2.7 clutch is now the new clutch to use over the pt clutch

Ah crap, I'm an idiot. I meant 288, not 588. The 288S was the Getrag 5-speed used in the PT Turbo. Personally, I consider it superior to the T850 in every way. I'm still not exactly sure why they didn't use the T850 in the PT. I think I threw the "A" in front because I'm much more used to the old transmission designations too. I believe Chrysler still uses that format for trans codes (The NVG-T350 is the "A578").
I'm asking this question because I found a black Stratus R/T sedan in my local junkyard that is 100% complete, wheels and everything. Don't know what's up with it. Could be blown engine, or title issues. It just showed up within the past week. If it's just a bad engine, it's a REALLY tempting flipper.

Really? If the SRT-4 clutch doesn't work without modification, how does the 2.7L clutch fit if they use the same trans? I mean, if it's a better option, then I'll jot that down on my 2.4L swap list.a23dranger wrote:Another thing is the 2.7 clutch is now the new clutch to use over the pt clutch

Yup. My brother has a Sebring convertible that is a 5 speed with the T-850. Pretty rare car.
Snag the wheels off that R/T! Those are super rare!

Do you homework before you put any money down on the project. Those 2.7L are screwy hit & miss reliability. They have a rep for oil sludging in the heads passages and killing valve train and then the cam chain. LOTS have the front time chain cover cut threw. Probably most related to poor maintenance.jonnymopar wrote:I'm asking this question because I found a black Stratus R/T sedan in my local junkyard that is 100% complete, wheels and everything. I bought the wife a new 03 sebring LXi w\2.7 went to several dealerships and they couldn't locate an R/T sedan w\manual in the entire USA. For some reason I thought the neon SRT was "too small inside" for the car seat.... yeah stupid i know.

I would like to present the following clutch that I have been researching over the past months.
It looks like the non-self-adjusting PT clutch, but its not. Its SACHS modular clutch for a 2003 2.7 Stratus RT.
Heres what I have on it so far:
Flywheel OD = 10.555in
Flywheel Thickness = .815in
Disc OD = 9.0625in
Disc Thickness = .305in
Weight = 21.9lbs
Overall thickness, from "feet" to cover = 2.445in
Est. minimum torque holding = 200ft/lbs
Aproximate Price = $250
LUK Part # 05-119
SACHS Part # K7029601
RHINOPAC Part # 05119 - rebaged LUK
EXEDY Part # KDG04
BRUTE POWER Part # 92638
Beck/Arnley Part # 061-6264 - Discontinued as of Feb 28, 2011 - rebadged SACHS
Thanks Jeff for reminding me about the throwout bearing. For everyone else also wondering what throw out bearing to use with a this 2.7 clutch, it uses the same throw out bearing as an SRT4. Which fits the T350 fork.
Mopar P\N: 4641947AA
Sachs P\N: SB60071
SKF P\N: N4173
If you happen to buy a clutch kit for a 2002 - 04 2.7 Stratus or Sebring that comes with a throuwout bearing, thats the one you want to use. Its the same as above.
Any other measurements? Let me know. Im still trying to get a broken input shaft to use in a jig that will let me find out what the real holding capcity of this clutch is.
Edits on 4/4/2011: Part Numbers, price, spelling and grammar. Also added info on throwout bearing from another post.

Fixed. Maybe...
Search for MTX in a '00 ATX. There are a few specific items to the '00 model year. Component wise, it is prolly the most difficult if you a want to go with an '01 and up t350. The pedals from an '00 are the only ones that work, if you want to stay with the '95 to '00 t350.

That's the better option, if someone already has everything ready and available.

In the Chrysler parts books I have, the T-350 is referred to as the A578.trojmn wrote:They used the T850, also rare as hens teeth. IIRC the final drive is numerically higher than what is in the SRT.
Ive never heard of a A588 trans code. lol that reminds me of the old mopar codes. A904, A518, A999, etc.

okay i dont know much about transmissions, like all the differences between self adjusting and the latter...
but since I have a 2000, which is what I believe self-adjusting (correct me if im wrong) cable'd clutch, can i get that 2.7 r/t stratus clutch to slide right in like the hydraulic systems? they can all use the same clutch right?
