Pissed off & confused Booger Bushings someone please exp
Has anyone successfully managed to install the bushings under the shifter with NORMAL DIY tools?
I tried for about 2 hours today with various tools to no avail and cut my hands in all sorts of places in the process. The bushings are wayyyyy too tight, the force required to press them on is just ridiculous.
Can anyone suggest how to get them on please?

Getting them on is easy, getting them off can be hard. If they're too easy to get on they WILL come off by themselves. I know this from 12 years ago when I started molding them and testing them on my own car.
Make it easier on yourself, just unbolt the shifter and lift it up so you can get to them. Then just grab a plier if needed, they'll go right on. You can use pretty much ANY kind of lube, it won't attack the plastic bushings. A small slip joint plier can be wiggled in there without unbolting the shifter but that's still hard to do.

Are you talking about the shifter end or the trans end bushings?

I'm talking about the shifter end bushings. Trans end was relatively easy in comparison.
Jeff I take it these are your bushings? Can you please be more specific when you say to use a set of pliers? Like how would I press them on using pliers? For the trans end the smaller bushing was a bit tricky but I was able to use a set of small pliers and push on the bushing with it with my body weight. I just can't do that for the ones under the shifter as they are at a weird angle and the cable wants to keep the plastic cable end vertical.

The bushing IDs and steel pins on the shifter lever arm are the same as on the trans. Put the bushing into the cable end, small end first. By hand just start it onto the steel pin. One plier jaw goes UNDER the steel pin, other jaw goes OVER the top of the head of the bushing. Just give a squeeze.

I took my seats out to be able to move and get a set of vicegrips in there, but it worked!

wow! that looked ridiculously easy. I am pretty sure mine wouldn't have went on that easy, as the force required was just crazy. I will try again when I have the centre console off. P.s do you have any tips on how to get the retaining clip off? The ones which keeps the cables attached to the shifter body?

It's because he was using Scotch locks instead of channel locks.

Whenever you do something for the first time it can be tricky. Once you know how to do it, it's much easier to say how easy it was. I am not gifted with the blessing that is a garage, I have to do this stuff on a busy street, so I have the added pressure of making sure no one runs over my legs when I am doing this.
I tried to get a G clamp in but it was too big.
