eclipse trans

Post by timmyw28 » Fri Dec 27, 2013 10:01 pm

I am planing on swaping my atx for a mtx but I can't find any neon mtx in my area . I have heard that eclipse uses the same mtx as the neon .would a 96 eclipse trans work for my trans swap or would I need one from a neon.

Yes the t350 from eclipse and talon non turbo will work in your neon.

Note: neon must be 01+, as DSM T350s are all hydraulic.
ASP - First NGC SOHC in the 13s and the 12s. First SOHC neon over 500whp. First NGC Neon on MS.

Erik - Would this swap work, if it's possible to swap bellhousings, from a 1995-2000 ?? :-k (Assuming this is going into a 2000 Neon, only)

Should work, they are all T350's. Shouldn't be any different than swapping a 2001-2005 MTX into a 1gn, using the cable bellhousing. Just remember to check/set the diff bearing preload.

I think Erick just meant as far as a direct hassle free bolt in.

Yea, nick. No problem, but if you can't find a neon trans, you also can't find the bell housing.

Yea is a 00 I may just wait a while to see if one will pop up. If not I'm going to get the eclipse trans and make it a hyd set up. Still got to get other parts for the swap I'm just starting with the most important part first

The problem is that a 2000 has the firewall provisions for the cable clutch, and won't accommodate the hydraulic clutch and master cylinder without significant modifications.

I would just wait until you can get your hands on a 1995-2000 MTX bellhousing, and swap it over.

Occasionally, bellhousings will show up 'for sale' on Neons.Org.
Another source might be the junkyard - Look for blowed-up MTX's, that otherwise have the bellhousing intact.

You could ship the eclipse MTX to chipdogg and have him go through it, and install the bell housing for you. The diff preload would be properly set, and the MTX would last a lot longer.

You also need to find the 2000 model year pedals too, as they are a 1 year only production run.

Or just swap the 2001 to 2005 firewall section to your 2000 and go with the hydro set up.

I only mention that, because if they are having troubles finding MTX neons, finding a 2000 MTX neon to source the pedals from, is going to be even more difficult. Considering the ATX to MTX production ratio, it doesn't help matters much.

They do pop up every now and then on the FS boards, but waiting around for a set of pedals might take a while, and they could get snatched up from under your nose.

Modding the firewall may be a pain, but it might also be faster/easier than trying to find/waiting for the right parts.

If you don't have access to a welder, the panel could be overlapped, and riveted/bolted into place. As long as you are keeping it to that small patch, there isn't too much stress there. Most of it is hidden from view anyways. Unless it is a show car, function beats form.

I'm just going to wait for a neon mtx to pop in the junk yard. So i can have the right pedal to trans. I'll just fab the clutch pedal weather it hyd or cable. The reason I want to get one from the junk yard is because I can get a trans from their for 60 bucks.

modifying the fire wall isn't that hard i swapped over all the eclipse goodies, aluminium clutch master, cast slave and bent some steel line to mate up added a rebuild to both the clutch master and slave, new flex hose, and a non modular clutch from a '95 neon, pedals from an '01, new pt axles all in all bout $220 minus the cost of fluid :) see my build log here viewtopic.php?t=59395

I been eyeballing a eagle talon clutch pedals assembly they are straight like the neon thought about getting every thing out of it and fabing up the clutch pedal assembly. But that got to wait till I get a speeding ticket paid for :cussing:

well its easier to get the entire brake/clutch pedal setup out of a late '00 hyd setup, because if you haven't noticed, the clutch pedal and brake pedal brackets aren't seperate, other wise you will be cutting and welding the eclipse one up, also a word of caution the eclipse clutch pedal arm ( the thing with clutch pad you push on) is way to long and would need shortened, trust me on this :)

also this guy has an '02 pedal setup for $15 which cuts down on what i think is the harder part of the conversion, if you decide to do it :)
