Mystery ball in manual transmission

Post by tneker » Fri Jun 13, 2014 10:48 pm

So I was swapping a 1st gen bell housing onto a 2nd gen gear case in order to use in a first gen car with cable driven clutch when something crazy happened.

While taping a new axle seal into the gear case housing, a small BB sized ball came tumbling out of the gear case. We looked everywhere to see where it came from, and cannot figure it out. Anyone know what this small BB sized ball is, and how important it is?

We through caution to the wind and put everything back together without it, but I'm not exactly happy with that approach.

Thoughts anyone?

There are 0 ball bearings in the T-350, except for the 2 sealed bearings behind the rear cover and it'd be extremely catastrophic failure if one of those were to loose a ball.

It's a ball from the synchronizer assembly.
