'00 ATX-2-MTX: shift interlock cable? what is it?

Post by Arro » Sun Aug 17, 2014 3:25 pm

I'm finally pulling my ATX to swap in the MTX on my '00. I removed the two cables from the shifter. I was wondering what to do with that second thin cable that was attached to the ATX shifter... Haynes manual calls it the shift interlock. Is that their fancy name for a park/neutral safety switch? Is this what causes the issues when swapping from ATX to MTX? I see it wraps around and up into the steering column by the ignition switch.
Drive it like you stole it, and work on it like you married it.

It unhooks from the ignition cylinder. I don't recall how, and I just cut mine since I was swapping out all my ignition stuff for MTX stuff anyhow.

Take a peek around it. It unhooks from the column.

Also, it shouldn't cause any "issue" even if you left it since the PCM won't be looking for it any longer once you have the MTX one in there.
