Tranny Failure, No Reverse

Post by p8ntballah413 » Tue May 16, 2006 8:56 pm

So I go to leave my friends house tonight and I go to back up and I have no reverse. I put the car into neutral it and moves, it goes but the atx wont shift. So I dunno whats going on. I have to drive it, I have no choice, and I have no money to fix it. So has anyone ever heard of this before? Do I need a new atx tranny?

if you have an CAI this will be easy, if not, this might be hard. But with your car turned off, turn it to the the key once, so its still off but you can move the shifter. pull the e-brake, pop the hood, and get a friend. if you have the stock airbox, remove it temporarily, or get a mirror, on the top of the tranny, you can see the shifter cable. its just 1 cable. have a person sit in the car and change the shifter gears 1 at a time and see if the cable moves. if it only moves for a few btu not all, then you have a shifter wire problem.

You can also lift the center console out, and look at the shifter wire inside the car, follow it and make sure theres no major kinks or bends in it.

If it looks fine on both ends, you might have to jack up the car and look under it for the cable and check there too.

If it looks fine all around, then your tranny is probably jacked up.

well d,1,2 all seemed fine, but they did seem kinda sluggish. I tried resetting the ECU but it didnt do anything. But about 6 hours later I was about to leave my parking lot at school and I slide it down into neutral, and the car stayed still. So i was like wtf is going on, so then I said a prayer to the transmission God and put it into reverse. and it went backward! So i dunno wtf was wrong with it, but it appears to have fixed itself i dunno. I had some of my friends suggest it was the linkage too. I dunno if it just kinda snapped back into place on it own or w.e. as long as it works lol. thanks guys
