You'll be able to tell when it's time to change them when you get a miss or stutter near the top of the rev band.

I use NGK 4306s gapped at .032
When you are running 23 lbs of boost!

I am running stock boost and I am at .040. Runs great. Got the hemi Champs in there.

Wires every 12k eh? (rhymes)

I should change mine here in a bit. Got the Accel 8mm were on there from the previous owner.

catalyst, how are those new plugs treatin you? What did you put in and at what gap? Stock is .050

plats are a very bad idea for the srt, go get some ngk 4306's before you put a hole in a piston

T-bolt Clamps In all sizes HERE -> http://www.siliconeintakes.com/category.php?cat=1
These suckers stay tight forever! They are 100% stainless so they won't bend/rust or stretch like worm clamps.

You should look into a catch can and check valve for your intake system as well, that looks like a pretty big pool of oil in there....any catch can will work, but the eBay ones tend to be crappy so, might be a good idea to get a bwoody catch can or something like that.

Well.. When I was Stage 1 my plug gap was .038

Yep 12,000miles between wire changes... They were changed at 23,000 miles when both #2 and #3 Plugs went out going over the bridge, then I changed them at 35,000 miles just before Stage 3 went in.

Why did you put platinums in there? :tardbang: :tardbang:

Expensive and actually perform poorly on our cars.

Thanks for the info. While I can do minor car repairs, my knowledge is significantly lacking.
I'm always nervous after I replace something on my car, thinking I hope it still works.

how are these?

Actually based on my experience withthe DSM community, platinums are bad because they are smaller electrodes and fragment, throwing pieces around in your cyllinder and against your piston.

Irridium plugs, while even smaller still, are supposedly stronger, and don't blow apart under boost. DSM guys use either NGK standard plugs or NGK Irridiums, both with great success.

for the price and performance, NGK standards are the way to go.

And NO SPLITFIRES. EVER! talk about fragmenting!

Ok, she seems fixed! :) I replaced the wires with some OEM ones and put in some NGK iridiums at .035 gap. Working like a champ.
Boost is back at 15psi and vacum is nice and stable now. But in a bit you all can be sure that I'll do a real boost leak test, and get some T-clamps. :ban:

Good, glad you took those platinums out there. You coat the threads of the spark plug with antiseize compound?

yeah back when I was driving my turbo Daytona, I used regular copper Champions, but I used NGK irridiums in my DSM after first running for a few months with NGK standards, and I saw less knock and kept my timing advanced more often, and that was at 17psi.

NGK irridium plugs FTW.

Yeah I used antiseize.

So where can I get a boost leak tester, or make one?

Thanks everyone for all the answers and advice so far, I know I'll need more.

the ngk iridiums did the exact opposite on the srt, they increased knock quite a bit, the copper 4306 provides the lowest kr so far.

$30 shipped from dasmopar on srtforums. I had a friend make one and it cost him a bit over $30 plus his time looking for parts.

^ I got my boost leak tester from them

I used to use Iridiums in my '96 GSX. I've used nothing but NGK 4306s in my SRT-4. With Stage 3 Mopar recommends the 4306s or the LZTR5A-13

I also exclusively use Taylor ThunderVolt Plug Wires.

Mox how do you compare the two, the GSX against the SRT? Excluding AWD, I'm just talking tuning.

Re: Questions about boost, now with vacum questions

Post by catalyst » Thu Aug 23, 2018 10:22 pm

It's been awhile but I have new questions. I replaced my stock intercooler with a nice black mishimoto with a stock fitment. Afterwards it only gets 10 psi and it builds to it slowly. I took it off and put it back on again, would it be because the increased volume of the new IC that I get less PSI?

Also there are deeper problems, aside from the boost issue, my oil pressure warning light comes on when it gets hot, (I use 0W30) and worst of all I took her to the drag strip for the first time and she ran 16s! IDK what to look out for, please help. That's slower than my old SXT.

I can't help with the boost issues, but check your oil pressure sending unit. It's on the back of the block on the driver's side, with a bright green plug. They are notorious for leaking oil and setting off the oil light.

Replaced it about 3 months ago. I changed the oil today and ordered plugs, wires, and coil pack too. My injectors are ticking real loud too. There is around 50k miles on those parts aside from the injectors I go around 5k to 8k on them.

A larger more efficient (at exchanging heat) intercooler can affect boost pressure.

The added volume will take longer to build boost, and cooling the air more efficiently will take away thermal expansion, so the air volume is effectively shrinking, also lowering pressure.

It's kind of like an exhaust pipe that is sized way too large for the engine, the slower moving large air mass will create back pressure against the flow coming out of the exhaust ports/header.

But just how much of this is actually causing the drop in boost and power, vs another potential issue???

You must have a boost leak. You need to book leak test.

What psi were you pushing with the stock intercooler before..?

I know the stock intercooler sucks but not enough to make that big a difference.

Tune up completed and boost is a steady build to 12-14 in second and third, should be good. Thanks for looking.

With the stock intercooler it would spike at 15 and then hold at 11-13.
